Impressive work Chris. Hopefully this'll see SO get in front of some well receptive audiences. I assume you haven't heard back from any of other festivals or you'd have told us that already. I hope some A:M Users can get to some of these festivals and see SO on the big screen.

Oops, the one thing I forgot to mention is that I heard from Big Muddy Film Festival at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, and we were not accepted to that one.

Two notes:

2012-02-08 Not accepted: Green Bay Film Festival

2012-02-07 Rhode Island Film Festival (whose notification date is not until July) sent an informational email to everyone that has submitted so far. Some highlights:

At this writing, we have received just over 900 entries.

HOW DO WE SELECT FILMS?
RIIFF requires that each submission have at least three independent reviewers, meaning that every film that is entered is treated fairly and with objective standards. In 2011, film entries were actually accepted early, with the first notices going out in late March. This year, our goal is to screen 200 titles during the Festival in August. And yes, this is a very competitive Festival.

HOW MANY FILMS ARE SUBMITTED TO THE FESTIVAL?
Last year (the 2011 Festival) we had 4,531 film submissions to the Festival and 364 screenplay entrants.

So just going with the numbers, 200 titles to be accepted, out of 4500 submissions, those look like pretty long odds. It's nice to get this kind of feedback, however, to have an idea of what we are up against.

A couple of rejections:

2012-02-16 The LES Film Festival
2012-02-21 Talking Pictures Festival

However, on January 3rd I mentioned that the notification date passed for KIDS FIRST!. It looks like they were having problems with their every-3-month format and have moved to an every-6-month format. I heard back from them today, and in short, we have been accepted for the KIDS FIRST! film festival!!!! They are affiliated with about 150 different viewing venues, so there are potentially a lot more eyeballs that could end up viewing the movie! You can read more about the festival here.

It seems the trailer is hugely important to have, so thanks to ErnestTx for getting that together! I will have to send them 5 copies of the DVD, and upload a number of files (including the trailer), and we should be all set!

Test Subject B has quite high production quality. Almost could be a theater release if the story is any good. Yes, looking at some of the other animations and ours looks extremely professional. :) Fingers crossed! Great work Chris! Oh and maybe you could put a profile pic up on vimeo...

Good news! (Below text is edited.)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

This is a confirmation that your film has been accepted to the 2012 California International Animation Festival.

We will be screening/airing this year on KAZV-TV, a local TV station with a possible audience of over 1.5 million people.

The only thing we ask of our film makers is that they promote their film and CalAniFest to their friends and associates and on their websites.

Their web site is: http://www.calanifest.net/

Thanks Chris! Seems as if there are quite a lot of animations that will be shown on this public TV, many which look quite good, and which I am familiar.

For anyone in Modesto area (and perhaps some surrounds:Stockton to Merced, Tracy to Knights Ferry) of California, Scarecrow of Oz will be viewable:

Sat. June 2, Mon June 4, Sat June 16, Fri June 22 at 1:00PM on I believe Comcast channel 195? and maybe channel 14? or Mytv26 (whatever that is). It is not clear what the status of KAZV-TV is currently.

AND during the month of June (June 1-28), one can vote for one's favorites (wink wink) here

There are only 3 in the full length feature category of which SO is one.

Thanks again Chris for all your efforts!

Nancy, thanks so much both for providing the information about when it is playing and for catching this. I'm not sure where they got a reference to that video from! When I go to vote page, I get a scrolling box option (scroll all the way to end for "feature" voting). It says "audience favorite" survey will take place jun 1 - jun 28, and results will be posted on festivals website some time after that. I'm guessing you tried to "stuff the ballot box" too early?

I think Bromance might qualify as animation feature as it looks like it has a bunch of animated segments. (not sure how much is animated). Looks pretty good.

I'm gathering this central valley of California festival being shown on a local public access channel is loosey-goosey with the rules, run by volunteers most likely. Quite amazing that they have the entries that they do. I'm in California, but unfortunately, their limited broadcast range does not include my area.

The biggest Congrats should be going especially to Holmes Bryant & Ken Heslip, who did the lions share, and were active from start to finish. Unlike the rest of us fair-weather fiends! B) Especially Holmes, without whom it never would have finished, nor come together- a Major Congrats! Hope he knows about this, still being off the gridish?

HOO Hooo! And this is an ONLINE festival, so we all can watch. From their website:

Simply put, if a film is good, it will be accepted and screened without time constraints. Films will not be available for download, but shall be presented in a video on demand system that will allow users to watch the films. The V.O.D. system will be secured and can be viewed from any computer.

Unlike other festivals streaming films online, films in this festival cannot be downloaded, the films HAVE NO EMBEDDING CODE and our HTML code if copied and pasted, the films will not play, therefore they CANNOT be placed on other websites.

The only time and place they can be viewed is in our festival.

......

Our online festival will take place September 20th thru September 30th, 2012.

There's a "nominated" beside our name. Sounds good. Can ours not be played?

Thanks for the heads-up, Ken. I just sent an email to the festival asking them what is up.
