I'm now involved in submitting TWO to festivals. My sense is that festivals with a "Children's Film" or "Fantasy Film" theme are likely targets; high-profile festivals like Sundance or SXSW less so.

However I think it might also be advantageous to submit to festivals where someone who worked on TWO would be a local talent angle. They always seem to ask if a film-maker might be in attendance.

Festivals with no or low entry fees are particularly good to hear about.

So, TWO person, let me know below if there's a festival near you that you might attend.

No guarantees of course, there is a finite budget on this endeavor, but it's something I'd like to have in mind as I plot this out.

There is a meeting downtown tomorrow about launching a film festival in Chattanooga. I am planning to attend, so I will be you apprised.

WHEN: Thursday, May 20, 6:00 pm

WHO: The general public, film lovers, AFFT members and the media

WHERE: The Chattanooga Convention Center, 1150 Carter St., Chattanooga, TN

At the last AFFT quarterly meeting held in February, six film initiatives were unveiled to the public for the first time. These initiatives came in answer to the question, “How can we build and sustain a viable film culture in Chattanooga?” and were a result of a three month process where over 150 film enthusiasts contributed. The May 20th meeting will address one of the six initiatives, “Launching a major Film Festival in Chattanooga”....

I thought a film had to be "not in the public domain" to be registered at a festival. Not so? Maybe save the money and do this for SO?

I've never seen such a rule. Can you show an instance of a rule like that on an entry form?

I can't find any forms, but from what I remember it was a requirement in the Foyle Film Festival. I also thought you mentioned it here before TWO was released.

Maybe you mean "on the internet" although that isn't a always a bar either. TWO isn't PD. It's © The version of TWO on the internet isn't the same as the one being entered and perhaps we'll pull it off Youtube for the duration anyway. Anyway, I'm not looking for reasons to not do this at this point, I'm looking for TWO crew members who have festivals near them. I will read the rules carefully before I proceed.

I live near Seattle.

The Seattle International Film Festival is probably out of reach for the moment, but the organization also has smaller festivals like:
Films for Families : http://www.siff.net/...d...166&PID=345
Northwest Connections : http://www.siff.net/...d...166&PID=351

------------------------------------------
Also
-----------------------------------------

Northwest Film Forum:
http://www.nwfilmfor...all-for-entries
Or you can contact the Director of Children's Programming and ask for other opportunities to show TWO
Elizabeth Shepherd liz@nwfilmforum.org
----------------------------------

Seattle Children's Film Festival (I think this is connected with Northwest Film Forum, but not sure)
http://www.nwfilmfor.../cffseattle.htm
---------------------------------

Seattle's True Independent Film Festival
http://www.trueindependent.org/
---------------------------------

Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival
http://www.mifff.org/index2.html
-----------------------------------

2D or Not 2D Animation Film Festival
http://www.plexipixe...rnot2d/contact/
(shows 2D and 3D animation)
----------------------------------

Blue November MicroFilmFest
http://blue-november...forentries.html
-------------------------------------------------

Kid's Fest - at the Gig Harbor Film Festival (close to Seattle)
http://www.gigharbor...mp;Cat=Category
---------------------------------------

Tacoma Film Festival(near Seattle)
http://www.grandcine...page.php?id=128
------------------------------------------

Port Townsend Film Festival (near Seattle)
http://www.ptfilmfes...Filmmakers.html
--------------------------------

The Hot Rod Monsters Film Festival
http://www.hotrodmonstersfilmfest.com/
They accept films in the B-Movie, Campy Horror, Zombie, Alien, Monster, Hot Rod, Rat Rod,
Kustom Kulture, Surf, Exploitation, Car Chase, Biker, Beatnik and Sci-Fi styles - including Pin-Ups, Burlesque Dancing,
Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Kustom Cars, Pin Striping, Lo-Brow Art, Tattoo Art, Greaser Culture, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Choppers, Fabricators, etc.

----------------------------------------------------------
The Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival
http://threedollarbillcinema.org/
(I'm not aware of anyone up here who worked on TWO who is gay, but surely other cities have gay and lesbian film festivals?)
--------------------------------

The Seattle Jewish Film Festival
http://www.seattleje...lmfestival.org/
(Nancy Gormezano is Jewish! Maybe we can smuggle her up here for the showing...)
-----------------------------

The Seattle Irish Reels Film Festival
http://www.irishreels.org/
(We can smuggle Ken Heslip into Seattle for this one.)
--------------------------------------------

National Film Festival for Talented Youth
http://www.nffty.org/
(Surely we have some talented youth running around?)
-------------------------------------------

--------------------------------
We could also make a "short" version and would have many more venues to show it and market the full length film.
This might actually be possible since the Oz stories have such a modular nature.
-------------------------------

Also, here is a Google map with lots of Art Film Houses across the country. I don't know how these places play the distribution game, but here they are.

I got your message on that one. Thanks. I'm probably waiting until the next one comes around next year since the inexpensive deadlines for this year are already past. There is a deadline tomorrow but it's twice the cost of their early deadline. I've already run through Martin's budget for this.

And maybe TWO will be better next year than it is now. Temecula doesn't have a specific "Fantasy" category, so TWO would need to be more ship-shape to have a chance there, I'm thinking.

No but they do have a animation category. I would help by paying the difference of the entry fee. I could ask the festival if it is OK to still submit TWO. I have a DVD that I could give them to submit. If they say yes then you could finish the paperwork and I could represent the animation.

Hi Guys!

My films has been screened on over 200 festivals so far (Including couple of big ones like Sundance, Siggraph...) so I have some experiences and I would be happy to share them.

There are more than 10.000 film festivals in the world. More than 90% of them are completely crap and waste of time. As you know there are 3 or 4 big ones (Cannes, Berlin, Venice and lately Sundance has gaining the similar reputation). If your film is accepted on one of those Festivals then it will surely have a bright future! The "B-league" are so called "Oscar busters". Those are a couple of dozens festivals with a licence from the Oscar Academy (you can find a list on Withoutabox). Means- if you win a "best of the festival" award on one of those festivals you are eligible for the Oscar nomination. Most of those festivals (not all!) are also very good and worth the entry fee. There are couple of other good festivals- hidden gems in the ocean of very bad ones... but those are hard to find.

The good resource of informations for the festivals is http://www.shortfilmcentral.com for short films. I'm not familiar with feature films, because so far I didn't make any :-)

I don't think TWO would be accepted to the COMPETITION programme of any of those festivals. From couple of reasons. To name a few- most of the festivals demands that films shouldn't be distributed in any way (TV, DVD, Internet...) before the end of so called "festival circuit".
Second "festival circuit" in most cases doesn't last more than 2 years. Means that if you want to submit your film on Festivals for 2010, then film should be finished after January 2009. If I remember correctly TWO was finished in 2008.

But at the other hand- the way TWO was produced is very interesting. So maybe you could send an e-mail to the festivals, describing the idea behind the production of TWO and suggest them to screen film "out of competition" in one of special programmes. If you can assure that some of the makers of TWO could attend to the festival to answer questions from the public or even have a lecture about the "making of TWO" and new way to low-budget film making... then this could be very interesting. Maybe you can even offer to organize a workshop for children, where you can make a simple story by using TWO characters... Most of the festivals will welcome such ideas- this could be an interesting addition to the festival and can be a good promotion for TWO. (I lead couple of A:M workshops at the festivals in the past. Here you can see the result from one of them: http://vids.myspace....ideoid=20672351 . The idea is similar to the "pass the ball" that Hashers are playing and it is made in only 5 days. Most of the students didn't have any prior experience with any 3D software.)

That's my 2 cents :-)

Regards
Dusan

That was just delightful - loved the spontaneity, surprises. The characters, sound track were fabulous fun. I love animations with a playful attitude, with no self consciousness, nor judgement about right/wrong. I'm guessing you encouraged the participants to let their imaginations run wild. Or maybe they didn't need encouragement? That looks like it must have been a lot of fun for everybody.

I have ZERO expectations that TWO would make it onto a Sundance type festival and I'm not pursuing those sort of events. I have ZERO expectation that TWO would make it onto a festival where industry types are circulating looking for the next undicovered indie film and I'm not pursuing those events. TWO IS "animation" but it's not well enough done to compete on a general animation festival or in an animation category that considers all types. I AM targeting festivals that have narrowed their focus to a niche that TWO fits well which I regard as Fantasy/Magic (based on the beloved fantasy book I tell them) World Cinema (made by 100+ people around the world I tell them) Children's Movies (never mind the two axe hackings I tell them) Low Budget Film Makers (made for $0 I tell them) Musicals (haven't found one of these yet) I'm pitching TWO as the first ever animated feature completed as an internet collaboration and in that regard it MAY have a chance to getting programmed within one of the narrow interest categories. These are not A-list celebrity festivals. These tend to be festivals organized within some other community event, possibly with drinks served. But they are a screening with an audience and that's what I want to get for TWO at least once, somewhere on this planet.
