SketchUp and Animation Master

Hi,

 

The geriatric is returning to AM after a break of about 5 years. During the interval I've created a big library of models using SketchUp (free version) and there is really only Collada DAE or STL export options available in SketchUp for me. The DAE also has an option to include texture data in the export.

 

So the question that just about everyone must ask - is there any way of converting DAE to any of the AM import formats (without breaking the bank)?

 

OR

 

Is it possible to re-texturise / paint the STL imported model?

 

Any help will probably allow me keep a bit more of the ever thinning thatch on top of the brain cells,

Welcome back to A:M!

 

If you import a polygon object into a model window rather than import it into the PWS as a "prop" it will get "converted" into splines which can be textured or decaled like any other model.

 

Note that these conversions from polygon to spline are usually grim, especially if the polygons are of the all-triangle sort.

 

Try it with a small one.

Dae is not yet supported by A:M neighter as prop nor as spline import.

 

what could work is unwrap3d or fragmotion. but the problem with sketchup is that it creates not very nice polygone topologies as far as I know.

Hello All,

 

Thanks for the suggestions and sorry for being so late in replying and thanking you all - been away and then I lost my password :blink:

 

I've decided that it probably isn't worth the hassle importing from Sketchup, so I'm taking the plunge and starting to venture into the spline world.

 

Should be interesting.

 

Maybe in a year or so I'll even understand what everyone is talking about :blush::rolleyes:

 

back to the 'drawing board'
