Mentor Suggestion

I have a suggestion for the older stronger modelers and animator here(hear me out now), I know we have the TAO and I love that for learning but I have another idea that could be beneficial for beginners and good for Animation master as a whole. We could have something where a Mentor would draw a picture(human for now of humanoid) and the student would make it get critique and so on. Then with said model another mentor or the same would have that student rigged rinse and repeat then they could go on to animating the same model. The mentor would for each block would make a tutorial for each task that would be done in this dare I say camp. I am sure this has been before but it would be nice to see an update. Just my two cents.

That's a tall order. Would these mentors be working for free?

How is what you are suggesting good for Animation Master? You did not make that clear.

There are schools that offer this type of instruction already (and they are not free) so you can look into those.

or...

Rather than asking someone to draw a picture for you can download pictures of just about anything frm the internet and use that as reference or rotoscopes. Model that on your own then post your work in the Work In Progress forum as many others already do now.

If you do that here then there will be no shortage of critiques and feedback from the members here.

If you get that far (and finish) and you want to rig it then I will help you in that same thread with the rigging part.

If you are willing to do what I suggested then you can start now instead of waiting for someone to setup a formal curriculum for this.

I am working on stuff now. I am saying this could be good for folks who have never used the program. I have tons of friends on facebook that want to try it out, I guess folks could pay the mentors or whatever have you. I am piggybacking off of the bootcamp suggestion Will had for his Tar of Zandoria series. I have done a work in progress thread but it got nuked and I really don't want to got through that process again just to see the work vanish. I have a website now where I post most of my W.I.P.S and I have one in the TAO of A:M where I am going through the manual.

I hope I did not offend you as it seems like I did by making this suggestion. I know I can go at it alone as I have done in other programs but like I stated I am trying to get some friends to join in and they have inquired about more up to date tutorials and such. I have also told them about the forums an the help that they would recieve here if they ask a question. Like I stated it was just a suggestion. Peace. I would certainly pay for some new and updated tutorials I have done it the past and would do it again.

I admire your enthusiasm Douglas.

The absolute best thing these folks can do is take the plunge, get involved in the A:M Community and start using the program.

They will find kindred spirits here in the forum, peers, friends and mentors too.

But... there is only so much one can do with someone who hasn't used a program.

Our collective focus is (and I believe really only can be) upon those that frequent this forum.

Aside: Don't let the fluke of your WIP topic disappearing dissuade you from starting a new post in the WIP section on any project (i.e. requesting a drawing that you will attempt to model).

The loss of three topics (out of thousands) in recent past is very unfortunate (especially when one of them is your own!) but it's also such a rare thing you shouldn't use that as an excuse for not posting whatever project you want commented on in the WIP forum. I personally think those topics can be brought back but to see that happen I believe we'd need to open some type of trouble ticket with Jason to get it on his radar as backups/restorations are at the server level.

I just do not want folks thinking I want something for free. I will start another W.I.P. down the line.

I tried something like this with a "bouncing ball boot camp" a few years ago but the students wore out pretty quickly and we never got to the end of it. :P

Perhaps we could try again some day.

That would be a good look. I would be down for something like that.
