Absolute FANTASTIC choices you have made here MEGA!

I love classic animation and these are some of the 'best back in the day'

Do you remember Marine Boy??
I wish they would release that again... I remember waking up early saturday mornings in Australia to watch that along with stuff like Johnny Cypher, Speed Racer, etc..

*sigh*

(showing his age)

Mega
Sure do. There is one that I cant remember. Something about a ring and a character (no, not Frodo) diving under water, but falls through and lands on his feet. Then using his ring to be, or fight, a dragon. I saw this well over 20+ years ago!!!!! ohmy.gif Loved it.

My wife bought me a replica of the Mach 5. Sweeeeeet.

Then in the 70's we got....

"Doc Bruce Banner belted by gamma rays....turns into the Hulk." That was fun.

Once I get around to modelling a vehicle of some sort, I've been considering doing the Mach 5. But for all intents and purposes, I'll probably try and model this since I've decided this is the type of vehicle the main character of my animation project would be driving, once we see her out driving.

That sounds sooo familiar..aarrghh!! Was it a Japanese production or US show?

Those Marvel cartoons back then were great! The animation was so stiff but it was lots of fun! The Hulk was one of the most fun of the Marvel cartoon of that time...*sigh*

They don't make animation like they used to...

Marine boy and his Oxygum... and stuff like Shazzam smile.gif

Do you remember Princess Knight (also known as Choppy and the Princess)?
The Japanese name is Ribon no Kishi, and its by the guy who did Tetsuwan Atomu (Astroboy, Kimba)

Mach 5!!

Thats a great model you go there!

I went to the Tokyo Anime Fair in 2002 and they had a real life size (and I think it was drivable) Mach 5 at the Tatsunoko stand. Bonus was some very kawaii (cute) girls modeling with it smile.gif

If this was live action with models it has to be "Johnny Socko and his Giant Robot".
Not sure of the Japanese title but I know as a kid it was good stuff! smile.gif

Haven't seen it since I was a kid of about 7 years old.

What a classic! Though I don't recall it as well as my older brother does.

http://www.alphalink.com.au/~roglen/johnny_sokko.htm

There was a "remake" of sorts in the 90's that was so retro inspired.
My older brother (who is in fact a quite successful freelance traditional animator here in oz) recognized it when he first saw some of

GIANT ROBO smile.gif
Rodney
Whoa. Thanks for that link.

Unless I was watching reruns which is quite possible... I would have been 3 or 4 years old when it was released.

That probably wouldn't have been too much of a stretch though as I still remember getting up around 5AM to see my cousins off to the school bus and just having time to see "The Lone Ranger" before they left. I would have been 4 or 5 at that time.

Many of the themes really grabbed the attention of children.
We imagined we were Johnny Socko and we had a robot all of our own.

Hehe. Fun times. smile.gif

Ahh, yes...our own friendly robot to fight the baddies and bullies smile.gif

This game (in my opinion rules! its for PS2 and its only on import). it got bad reviews from gamespot but I personally think the absolute opposite.

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/tetsuji...ew_6101814.html

Its Gigantor..you control your robot and beat up robots and throw buildings and people (even yourself!).

I (kinda) was able to relive childhood dreams this way hehe.

But, i like it...you may absolutely hate it - like the people did on the page above smile.gif

Nice model Bill! My wife got mine from a web site called exotic cars...something or other. The model even comes with a buzz saw under the car hood. Who needs the Batmobile!

<That sounds sooo familiar..aarrghh!! Was it a Japanese production or US show?>

Japanese production. Yep, I remember Princess Knight.

I also have a model/replica of Gigantor. Nearly flipped when I saw that. Great thing about living in NY!! biggrin.gif Find anything if you dig enough. For my fellow NY'ers, down by Houston and Broadway (around the corner from Tower Records, there is, (was? I havent been there in a year) , a store called Anime Krash. Amazing selection of anime models, videos and whole bunch of great stuff.

Also, on Bleeker, basement store, there was, is?, Kim's Underground. Again, amazing stuff. Wow. I have to make a trip to lower Manhattan soon. Have to catch up. It's anime heaven around NYU campus.

Gettting back to Gigantor,

A new movie coming out this year in Japan:

YAY!!

I think it's very possible, because it mentions GENEON Entertainment USA on the main page (Geneon was Pioneer Entertainment - they have quite a bit of clout i reckon)

We don't have a dedicated Anime channel, but in a way I am glad...it would be all dubbed as i much prefer it in it's original language smile.gif

But i am sure it would be very popular here in Sydney
omoanime
Guys,

Not to toot my own horn, but I created Omoshiroi Anime specifically for anime fans like you. I have reviews, quicktime previews, cross links for creative staff (so you can find other titles by the same director, etc), links to other sites for anime, recommendations and even a keyword search for when you can remember one element (girl riding on a whale) but can't remember what title that was from.

I have over 500 titles in my collection/library and over 1,200 volumes. I haven't been able to enter everything yet but I am making steady progress.

You can also see my anime-tinged space contest entry on a hidden link (it's in my footer here) there as well.

Hope it inspires others,

Thanks Paul!

Very nice website and I have visted it before but that was awhile back so thanks for pointing the way back there!
I am currently browsing your list of reviews!

By the way, just one thing - with Cutey Honey.

It's New Cutey Honey. Although the classic 70's original has not been officially released, I went to have a look at your review thinking maybe that was what you were reviewing.
Nothing big mate!

As I said, great site! Love the way you sorted the reviews out too and the presentation of information !

See ya!
starwarsguy
WOW! I think I've been there, too. Thanks for pointing it out! It rocks!
starwarsguy
Whoa! R.O.D. is on your top action show when you search by reccomended! I must have good taste! tongue.gif

After reading this thread, I feel like quite a poseur just liking Robotech.

LOL. It's okay. wink.gif

I loved Star Blazers, I think I watched that in Jr high/High School in the 80's, and I was a HUGE Speed Racer fan in the 70's as a kid. I remember there was some controversy about it being too violent and at one point my Mom didn't want to let me watch it but she relented.

Anyway, along the Star Blazers line...

http://www.cornponeflicks.org/harlock/harlockmain.html

I loved this during high school.

Per the Mach 5 - that car is built on a Corvette frame IIRC. You could order them, I think they were like 100k but I'm not 100% sure. Back before the toy explosion, having anything Mach 5 related was like having a gold. There were a few models out that were very hard to come by. Now you can get tons of stuff.

Definitely a car on my modeling list...once I get the skillz up wink.gif
patmals
Yay to captain Harlock smile.gif

They used to play Galaxy Train (Galaxy Express 999) TV series on the ABC here in Aus at some time - at least i think I think it did...no body else here remembers it every showing.

Maybe its just a figment of my imagination hehe

And all those cool Japanese based toys that came out and made a huge whole in parents pockets in the late 70's / Early 980's called Shogun Warriors (which i think was really a Nagai Go anime...can't rememer...or maybe Starvengers..or something...)
patmals
Oh, I saw the live action version of Gigantor (Tetsujin28go) at a cinema in Shinjuku).
Not bad actually, better than alot of comic-cum-movies i have seen previously though it isnt set in the 1930ish as the original was.
