After all the talk about action blending lately, I thought I'd have a go at making a quick tut on the subject. I have Thom walk along a path, stop, take a bow, and then start walking again. Please have a look and try it out and let me know if it makes sense, or if I need to add or clarify anything. I'm hoping someone who really knows this stuff will correct any errors and sugest omitions so I can fill in the blanks. Here is the link:

action blend tut

One of the many things I would like to know is how to copy a pose from one action to another. Like if I want to copy the last frame in a walk cycle to start with in the next action. I have tried every combination on make/copy.paste keyframe I can think of with no luck.

Thanks for the tut. biggrin.gif

Yep, same here.

Same here. It doesn't help that you have to manually move a bone/skeleton first before you can force any keyframes on it.

Nice tutorial. Great the way you spelled it all out.

Does the following sound plausible?

I went to "edit walk action" from within the chor. Then went to the last frame and copied the keyframe from within the walk action window.

I returned to the chor and pasted the keyframe in the 2nd frame of "chor action 2" (which followed my walk cycle action in the chor).

This appeared to work, i.e. the last position of Thom at the end of the walk cycle was mirrored in the beginning of choreography 2. I actually pasted it twice to create a slight hold and then added additional transition movement (throwing his arms up and kicking.)

However, I do have the strong feeling that I am missing something here.
Maybe I am misunderstanding what I am seeing (very possible)

Did this place your model in the same "global position" as the last frame of the action(if it's on a path)? Probably not. A button to do this all automatically would be handy.

Hey, I thought I tried that and it didn't work! Thanks for showing me that it does smile.gif I just tried doing the same thing in all manner of ways and it worked every time. I must have been working late when I tried it last.

Sorry if I missled anyone.

Thanks vegprime, copying keys from another action does work. I would still like to be able to copy and paste keyframes from in the CHO. Maybe you have to export the cho action as an action then copy from that. It would be a lot easier to be able to do it from within the CHO.

no problem gra4mac

Ken, I unfortunately did not use a path in my example.

Hi

I'm trying to follow your tut, but don't know what you mean by "Scrub the animation until the character is in the right place?"

Sorry, did a little digging and found out what it means. Got the tut to work too. Thanks bunch for putting that together.
