I have a particular style I want to try to achieve and I wondered if it is possible ?

Basically I have a treated sequence of texture maps that I want to apply to particular areas then have them repeat cycle during the course of the animation afterwards. Is this possible and, if so, how might I be able to do it ?

for example.

A flat screen with the maps applied so that when a figure walks in front of the screen the maps are recycling in the background as the animation proceeds.

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer in this matter.

Hi Simon! I did something similar recently, if I understand your question properly. You can apply more than one decal to the same surface, and animate the strength of each one, so as one decal fades out, the next one fades in. You could likely create an action for this if several decals need to cycle over and over, but it's pretty simple to animate.

Thank you for your reply.
What I'm hoping to do is apply a sequence of maps to act as a tone on a surface so that when the maps cycle through, the slight variations will make it look as if it is hand rendered with diagonal shading. This is a short example, by way of a test.
Would I apply it as a decal in sequence or could I use a QT or Avi file ?

Either way would work, but try it as a targa sequence and load it up as an animated decal. You can then set the timing for each frame in the decal settings. How many frames are you anticipating for this effect?

Thanks again for your reply.
At the moment I am just making 13 frames of each tone. If I can get it to work and it looks OK I will make some more. I hope to get the test done this evening.

Thank you for your help.
I made a little test using three of the tonesClick to view attachment

I set the fps to 6 in the properties and it worked through the 13 frames for two seconds. `Do you know of a way to make it repeat the cycle. ? I looked but, perhaps not in the right place.

you can key frame the "frame" property to make a sequence repeat. for-example for 13 frames key O at 0:00 and 12 at frame12 then at frame13key O and at frame 25 key 12 ... and so on

...and with Post-Interpolation in the timeline, you should be able to repeat it forever without any trouble.
-> Go to the timeline and click on the "frame" property.
2.) Go to the graph-mode in the timeline.
3.) Draw a selection-rectangle around all the keyframes in the graph-mode of the timeline.
4.) RightClick and choose "Curve > Post-Interpolation".
5.) Choose the one that is best suited for what you have done with the frame-property.

See you

Thank you to Rob and Fuchur for your replies. I will try that later today.

I tried to follow your suggestions but I think I'm missing something ( possibly between my ears ).

I have tried to select the sequences individual frames to access their properties in the images folder, the model window, an action window and the chor window but to no avail

When I apply the images as a decal in the model window, I can set the FPS, the start and end frames but cannot access individual frames. Am I missing something obvious ?

I should add that I am working in v15j.

I have only limited text. Do it in the char. Do "show more than drivers"

I think I must be particularly obtuse today ?

I followed the suggestions regarding the cycling of the maps but I could still not get the maps to cycleClick to view attachment ( see Tone cycle movie )

So I tried it using just colour and no maps to make sure I understood what I should be doing.Click to view attachment. It worked OK. ( see colour cycle movie )

So I tried to follow the lesson of that and went to find where I could key the frames of the maps in the chor...

But I drew a blank.

Could somebody kindly have a look at the project and tell me what I am failing to see?
Apologies for my slowness.

Ps
I did get a good idea to try in the project later but the maps problem is driving me slightly potty !
Gerry
Okay, but can't test it without the images!

EDIT: I've set up a test prj, you don't need to post anything.

Okay, here goes, my first tutorial with audio!

Thank you once again for your Brill tutorial and the time and trouble you went to in making it. I followed the method you outlined and it worked perfectly. Heres a little test . I hope to give a fuller version later this week.
