iPiSoft now has a new version of their software that uses Dual (2) kinect sensor cameras.

http://www.truebones.com

There is a FREE Dual Kinect Sensor calibration guide there, I hope it helps.

Check out iPiSoft Basic now available at Truebones.

Fascinating!

I really gotta get me some kinect action going on. Opted for the PS3 a couple of years back coz of all the hardware issues with the 360. Now I watch commercials with some lady sat on her sofa talking to the console and it loads movies for her. Ah well maybe one day.

Also the things independent developers are doing with Kinect is mind blowing. I saw a guy who used 3 of them to create a fully 3D chat room with a friend who was in another building. He could look all around her while they were talking. Amazing stuff.

That is very cool! smile.gif

For those looking in... don't stop with the first tutorial. Keep watching.
A lot of thought has gone into the iPi software.
mrbones

I have a client who will enjoy it. How to import BVH files in A:M? Is there a topic with a step by step? Can I use any rig?

Hi Xtaz,

I did a short video-tutorial. It really only covers the basics and is not that good of quality, but it should give you a certain understanding how it is done.

Big Update

Xtaz
I'm speechless. How easy, fast and intuitive is to work with IPI + A:M. Animators can curse me, but this tool enables a variety of projects, which sometimes are not suitable for not having enough time for the animation process.
I became a fan smile.gif
Here is a very quick test did using IPI ( 1 kinect ) and Mr. Simmons' Sam.
Thanks Fuchur for your great tutorial ....
John Bigboote
Wow! Cool, Xtaz has a new toy! I don't look at MoCap as a 'cheat' to good animation... I look at it as a supplement... or maybe a 'starting point' to good animation. Another tool in the box.
jason1025
Wow thats freaky real.

That look great Marcos. More power to you!

Looks good, Marcos! The only issue I can see is getting the shoulders to move when the arms move up.

I also did a tutorial a while back

Thanks, I am checking it out now.

Great results everyone.

Thanks and Cheers.

jason1025
I have not done it yet. I am still testing. I want to test 2 people at once . Joe says that will work as long as they dont over lap. Not sure how to process that though.

Here are some results and tests i did.

Funny. I remember reading something 6 or 7 years ago and they said that 10 grand would get you 2 cameras, ok results with a lot of work and you had to where all that tracking stuff. Amazing how far we have come.
thejobe
wow this is amazing i think im going to go get a copy of the demo now and go buy 2 kinetic cameras!
this might solve my problem of not being able to animate very well lol
John Bigboote
Yeah- that's a great test Jason. I didn't know there was a demo version. SO--- do you just need the kinect cameras, or is the Xbox integral as well? (I am SOOO green here)
jason1025
Setup is simple.

These are the items I purchased to have what I thought was a proper setup.

I used these to mount the cameras on my ceiling.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002WN1GO...s00_i00_details

I bought 2 of these, but in truth I only needed one. Important get this model not only because its inexpensive but because it is active technology which is integral.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004AGX4Y...s00_i00_details

Your going to need a decent graphics card. An Nvidia 590, or 580 are the best and will process the tracking in faster than real time. However those cards are extremely expensive about $500.00

My solution was to get a 520. The processing is slow takes about 15 minutes to do a 1 minute shot. As for prices and bang for your buck my next option if you had money to spare would be the 560 but not any of the in-between models like 540.

There are plenty of specials out there to get the 2 kenect cameras for $99.00 each. Keep searching. Do not pay more than $99.00 for the cameras.

To finally answer your question no you do NOT need anything other than the items I have listed above.

1 more tip. You can purchase the ipi software for $350.00 if you request that price specifically from Mr.Bones. However I recommend you get all your questions into him while you are using the demo and before you purchase as he will ignore your questions after you purchase.

Joe from Mr Bones is an interesting character. I find when I speek with him in person via skype he is extremely friendly and seems like a kind soul. However my dealings with him via email are the oposite. For example when I sent him a screen recording of issues I was having with the software and pointed out stuff I asked him to pass along to the developers because he has their ear he responded with "Stop complaining"

I've gotten that from Martin... my wife... my boss... my dog... my barber...

Joe is an interesting character- don't know what his background is. I met him when we were having a garage sale, he came up and started looking at some old Viewsonic CRT monitors I had out there for $10. We got to talking, he found out I was an animator and I found out he was in the business, turns out he lives about a mile from my house. I need to go meet up with him at a bar and tip a jar and talk turkey... things have gotten really interesting for him since he started selling this ipi rig.

THANKS for your info. I look forward to more tests and feedback... this technology is off-the-hook!

SO-

the ipi software from Joe.... $350
the 2 Kinect cameras..........$200
mounting and cables...........$ 50
___________________________

$600 gets you a dual camera mocap studio in your house. (not including graphics card) I'd be interested in seeing how the ipi does feet for you, feet are usually a problem in mocap/BVH, and I see you cropped them out of your test.
