what are the steps to use the 8 cores to render ?
Do I need to acquire more one license ? Assuming that this is the way, how do I enable two serial numbers to the same server?

I think you need to get your present license expanded. For a small fee. Contact Jason @ hash

As I think I understand the current status of things..the yearly sub lets you have four cpu's for netrender and the permanent license gives you 6 cores for netrender and if you need more as you have done have to go to Jason. If you would post something here when you have heard back Xtaz would be nice to know how you do especially with netrender and 8 cores.
I do have my eye on one of those 8 core amd's as I guess you already haveone . happy rendering.

As I understand it, Jason is currently thinking about additional rendercores which can be bought and added to a already existent licence.
You will have to have ONE licence with additional rendernodes applied to it... I recently asked Jason about this and he is thinking about it.
As soon as he made up his mind, the website will be updated to cover those questions.
See you

Any updates to this subject? Just learning NetRender and *re*learning A:M after a few years, but was hoping to take full advantage of all six-cores (last A:M PC was a single core Thunderbird)

Hi Rich,
you can now buy additional rendernodes at the hash-store, which will give you acess to all your cores in your computer.
They are very reasonable priced. For more informations see this thread:

I'll note that your regular A:M license for v16 includes the use of 4 NetRender Nodes, so you're set to begin experimenting already.

Is it still a safe practice to save 1 core for the OS? So, if you have a quad-core... only render on 3?

On Windows 7 I haven't had problems running 4 on my 4 core machine, not that I do much heavy rendering.
If in doubt you could set the priority of one Netrender process to "Below Normal" so there will always be capacity for anything else you do in the mean time.

Y'know what would be a really nice feature for NetRender? A finished frames RAM playback viewer. kinda like M*y*s 'F-Check', except it would be right in the NetRender program... with a 'refresh' button as new frames finish.

You can pretty much do that in A:M... import any image sequence, then later click on the filename property to re-choose the sequence and it will update with new frames.
