This came up in another thread.

Some simple techniques make it simple to make a non-simple shape.

The key to modeling in A:M is identifying the right contour to start with.

Thanks Rob for that vid.
Watching you model shows so many little shortcuts and easier ways to make things
that help a lot instead of doing it 1 CP at a time.
Thanks

A question! Do you typically extend splines with the Y key like that? Is there an advantage to doing it that way over just hitting A and clicking?

It's more habit for me. I'm still modeling like I had V4.

To extend a spline one CP I think Y is quicker. Two or more... A is probably as good or better. If I needed 10 more CP s I wouldn't use Y.

Cool. It's always interesting to see just the basics of how other people work.

Something I noticed today while extending a spline...

If I go to Add Mode and hold the shift key and click on the end of an existing spline to start drawing some new spline on the end of it, the junction between the old splineage and the new doesn't have spline continuity; it's like two independent spline ends stuck together. To fix that I need to detach one side and reattach it back. A minor task but I have to remember to do it.

That may be a reason i was using the Y key for minor spline extending; the new splineage gets proper spline continuity automatically.

Go into add mode (A). Don't hold the shift key. Click on end cp and continue the spline for continuity.

It's interesting to note that the Y extends spline by ever halving increments. (I just learned that today)

Thanks. I bet that's probably been true for a long time and i never caught it.
