Full Version: Optimal Open GL settings?

I'm using an Nvidia Quadro fx 3700 and under Windows XP 32 bit the performace in AM is very nice.
I recently upgraded my os to Win7 64 and the redraw is not all that great.

Is there any optimal settings I should set?
I currently use "application controlled" when ever possible but thinking there are calls being made now that are not applicable.

What A:M are you using?

15.0j

I started to make a profile and it seems better but not as quick as it used to be. Anything in these settings I should kill or turn on?

I'm beta testing v16 on my new 64-bit Win 7PC and I see that my real-time driver options are now just one: "OpenGL 64-bit"

I've noticed particles are way faster in this beta than they are in v15 on this same machine.

perhaps your slowdown is a result of A:M calling 32 bit OpenGL and 64 bit windows having to emulate things to make it work?

I don't have a solution for you except to say that 64-bit v16 is on the way and it seems quite promising.

That is probably the case. Overall AM is more stable under w7 64 even though it is only I'm using the 32 bit app but that is probably because w7 is pretty clean. I have a couple other 3d apps that really scream under 7 where they chunked under XP.

When I checked, it seemed that AM was in a software render mode for OGL, I was able to get the card to do hardware and it did make a substantial difference. Also increasing the read ahead helped.

How much will 16 upgrade be? Is there a pre-order?

Where are those controls?

All I know is that I'm testing it, it won't run on W2K and I needed to be up to date on my v15 subscription for it to run. i don't know about release date or how the license plan will be for it.

The controls were under the Nvida control panel and was set to application controlled, I was able to force the card for hardware render.
I didn't see an option for that setting on the regular desktop or game card program preferences. It might be accessible through a 3rd party tweaker program.

"Open GL Rendering GPU"
Then select the video card.

I'm sure we will hear some buzzing when the release comes near smile.gif

I didn't know there was an option to do OpenGL without the cardware.
