Its up to you whether or not to use the mac Version of am. I am a mac guy too. AM for mac is not stable and on an average pc it will render your project in I am guessing 9 minutes based on similar tests.

Solutions:
1. Get boot camp and install win 7 and AM for PC.
2. or buy a cheap PC around $700.00

There were a lot of code changes in 15f that might have something to do with it. Just out of curiosity you might try 15e or earlier and see what happens.

I think Steffen is looking into the mac speed problem for V16.

Thanks guys
I'll have to grab a copy of 15e and give it a go

as far as a pc go I am tossing that around idea around
and it seems as time goes by that is the way to go

pc question ?
are you sharing your monitors with your pc and mac ?

I used to do that when I had both a Mac and PC for work. I had to have separate keyboards and mice though. That was around 1999.

There are boxes now that will share a monitor, USB keyboard and USB mouse now between two PCs. Don't know if a Mac can be one of those.

yes i've been looking into a switcher
my main concern is do i have to change the settings on the monitor
going back and forth between windows and the mac
or will one setting do for both

if one setting will do then i can run the 2 separate computers

i think in the long run 2 computers might be the best
especially when doing upgrades

My life got simpler when I got down to just one kind of computer, but it can be done.

I think modern multisynch monitors adjust to whatever res the graphics card they are attached to is putting out. Are there other adjustments you are wondering about?

i hear ya on that, but things being what they like being able to use TSM which i can't
at the moment and other things are pushing to the 2 computers
and even though i could run windows on my machine i'm a bit apprehensive in making that move
i just have to many important apps that need to be maintained

not really sure at this point
i'll have to look into this and decide which way to go buy or build
i think as long as i can bounce back and forth and share the keypads and the like this should work

thank you

sneak preview or appetizer wink.gif for V16

this is the threeteapot scene from Robert, posted some times ago in the forum

windows (32 and 64 bit)

mac (v15 needs for the same scene around 46 minutes ...)

The screenshots are from the netrender version , rendering from master has similar the same time

I think running windows on your mac would be the least expensive and most practical solution. I don't think it's ever caused a problem for anyone as far as their mac stuff was concerned.
jimd
thanks for that v16 look sweet

i know and your probably right
i'm just in that awkward upgrade state of mind
and i'm pretty sure Jason has his mac set with windows
but he also has pc's
time is somewhat on my side cause there is no immediate pressure so thats good

Wow, Steffen! That is good news!

Is there a simple answer as to how you were able to increase the speed on the Mac side?

That screenshot of netrender has "Main_Instance0" and "Main_Instance1" ... are those two different cores of the same processor? If they are, then a personal render farm just got a lot cheaper.

Yes , different cores of the same processor (Dualcore)
Machine upgraded today to a Quadcore :-)

Slower rendertimes for A:M ,but much faster for compiling ...
