Just finished watching the UV tutorial.
That really cleared up a few mysteries for me.
Thanks Will

I watched up through segment 10 of the UV tute yesterday. Really great and clear as can be. I'm looking forward to re-decaling my Midge model as soon as I get the rigging finalized.
THEN I saw you've got smartskinning tutes as well! You've been a busy boy! Thanks again, Will.

Gerry--definately watch the smartskin/CP Weight one if you are working on your rigging!
I'm converting the patch modeling-King Kong tutorial now....

I will do that! I was in the midst of smartskinning a week or two ago when I had to put it aside for actual work, but I think I'll be getting back to it shortly.

You can only embed A:M Films videos in forum posts. Copy the bit in the "A:M Forums Link:" text box.

First, Will, when I load this page I get an error message and I think it's that video you tried to embed. It doesn't play for me, I just get the spinning thing.
But my question is, I'm decaling Midge with one big decal file. I've got a color layer but I will be adding specularity and displacement layers as well. But I won't be having these two on all decalled areas so I'm not sure, for instance, if I want no displacement on the face, do I make the face area on the disp map a neutral grey (i.e, 128, 128, 128)? Or do I leave it blank? How do I apply maps other than color to only selected areas?

Well every surface does have a specular property, even if it is NONE (0%)=BLACK... But for displacement, i am not sure. I think that it is based on values above and below neutral (128) gray, but that might not be right--so do a quick test on some simple geometry.

I have an idea of how this will work but I'll play around with it and see what happens.

I just finished watching all 13 videos. Thank you so much for posting them! I learned a lot. Up 'til now I had been using separate maps for each piece of my models... but no more!!! Your instructions really opened my eyes to texturing for AM. Now I need to watch the Kong modeling videos so I can learn how to create better models to texture.
