Just thought I'd let you guys know I'm not a welcher. I wanted to buy the full on version, but, just don't have the funds ATM, so I got the subscription. I'm still getting a lockup when I try to export models, on occasion. I had this same problem with vers 12, I can't nail down exactly when it happens, but, I'll try. I was hoping this wouldn't happen anymore. Oh well.

export models? to what format?
It happens every time to the same model?

I never get that far. I just hit file>plugins>export and then it locks up. It doesn't do it every time, which is why it is so hard to nail down what is causing it. I suspect I have something still selected, like a control point, or, I'm in a certain view. Its been a common problem in v12, I got used to saving before I tried to export. And even then, sometimes it would lock up, sometimes not. A difficult bug to reproduce consistently.

That is self-contradictory. You can't say you "never get that far" and also say "it doesn't do it every time".
Can you post the mdl?

ok, maybe I didn't explain it well. When I said I never get that far, I never got to the menu option to pick what model to export to. I select file>plugins>export and then it freezes. It doesn't matter what I'm working on, it has done it tons of times. I just kill the process and restart. And it does not lock up every time. I have had tons of successful exports. That is why I am saying this is a hard bug to consistantly reproduce. I used to be a QA tester, I know all about reproducing bugs and reporting them. When I can get a step by step method to reproduce this bug every time, I will report it. All I'm saying is, its a hard one to nail down. And to be honest, I haven't spent any time trying to nail it down, but, I will now.

There are some questions you could answer so that maybe others could possibly see if it happens for them:
1) What OS are you using Mac or Windows?
2) Which version of the OS are you using? (e.g. Windows XP Pro 32 bit SP3, etc.)
3) How much RAM do you have?
4) If Windows, which processor are you using? (Intel or AMD, and which type and speed)?
5) Don't know anything about Macs, but list anything specific to the MAC (e.g. model, etc.)
6) I don't think the video card would come into play, but it is probably worth listing just in case.
7) Which version of A:M are you using? You have the subscription, so that would be V15, but which release? (e.g. V15.a, b, etc.)
8) When it does work, which file format are you exporting to? (e.g. .lwo, .obj, ect.)
9) When it does fail, will it consistently fail on the same model over and over? Or did it fail on a model, and the next time you tried to export the same model, it worked?
10) Does it fail on both small size and large size models? (e.g. 200 splines vs 20000 splines)
11) Have you run memtest or some other RAM testing software to make sure you don't have a RAM problem?
12) Have you run any diagnostic software to make sure your hard drive doesn't have any issues?
13) Have you tried this on a different computer?
Thanks...

There is no difference between the CD version and the websubscription (they are both the full version) so that is not related to your problem. The biggest differences is that you saved yourself some dollars.
For Exporting try a different location for your Export. (In other words... do not use the File/Export menu)
Rather...
- Right Click in your Model Window
- Select Plugins
- Select Export
- Select the file format you wish to Export to
See if that doesn't make a difference for you.
Also: You should *always* save before exporting. This will ensure any changes recently made in your model are stored.

yeah, its a curious problem. Trying to get to a reproduceable one, it did it on just two closed splines with four points each. But I couldn't get it to do it again.
It has done it on vers 12, and now version 15 j+.
I'm using Windows XP, AMD64x2, 3 gigs RAM, ATI HD4650 video card. Its the only machine I have tried it on, so, I can't say for sure it isn't something with my machine.
However, it happens enough times for me to think that there is something I'm doing to set it off.
Of course, by now, I have learned to save before any export attempt.
And like I said previously, when it does export, it exports fine, in all formats.
Its weird, I'll keep trying to get it to do it step by step.
EDIT:
I think I might have it figured out. I was also having a problem when if I hovered the mouse over a toolbar icon and got a tooltip, then moved the mouse into the modeling window and tried to zoom, the rulers would be changing, but the model was frozen. I would have to minimize and maximize the app to get it to work. I had DirectX as the realtime driver; switched to OpenGL, and no more tooltip problem, so far. And so far, no more export lockups. I'll let you all know if this contiues to work ok. Thanks all.
