Well, I'm working on a Mac, and I shot some footage. It's saved in .mov format with H.264 as the compression. I import it into AM to use as a Rotoscope and all I get is a black screen and it tells me the rotoscope is only 00:00:00:01. What am I doing wrong this time?

Does it play in a regular Quicktime player?
If you have Quicktime Pro export it to a targa sequence.

Hi Darkwing
I do most of my stuff on a Mac too. Since you don't have QT Pro you might be able to use 'Image Ready' part of Photoshop if you have it.
Open the .mov then export it as a .jpg sequence.
I just tested it and when you get your Chor. right click the camera and rotoscope that file. It played for me but not sure about the quality of the video, you may need to play with it's settings.

Mac or pc I have the same problem darkwing. I use Walter Bakers suggestion and create a highly compressed Jpeg image sequence. When I am ready to composite with AE I use the original Quick time.

When rendering try fiddling with the alpha buffer in the render settings. I seem to remember a similar issue when I was trying this some time ago and eventually got it rendering just fine.

i don't have any of the adobe programs, and it was something from my vid camera, so it's not like it has an individual frames option. hmmm, well, I'll have to figure something out. Oh well, that shall be my problem of the week

Doesn't the Mac OS come with some whizz-bang 'movie-making' software? Look into the export options on that and see if you can at least put a different compression onto your movie...?

it's wizz bang software is the piece of crap known as iMovie, which has gotten worse with each edition of it. iMovie only exports to .mov, .m4v(which like no other type of computer seems to be able to use) and .xml for final cut

Cheap alternative is Blender. Load the movie into the sequence editor and render out to individual frames....

You can do it easily a couple of ways using iLife.
First, using iMovie, go under Share and select "Export with Quicktime." Click on the "options" button and change the video settings to one of the image choices (jpg, tga, tiff, etc.)
or...
Using Garageband, drag your movie into a track. Unders "Share," select "Export Movie to Disk." Then select "Expert Settings" from the popup menu. Follow the same instructions by selecting options and settings.
It's probably possible to do it with iDVD and iPhoto, too, but I'm too lazy to figure it out right now. :-)

yeah, thanks to Al found out mine did too, I still don't like iMovie. It is very bad with precision editing, even with the precision editor open.
