Hey-

I'm having trouble in 15J getting fluids to render with shadows, and I wanna know if its just me... anyone with a spare moment can give this a try?

HERE is what I get in the project after I simulate particles: WINEwireframe.mov
HERE is what I get with a no frills render: WINEshaded.mov
and the oddity, HERE is what I get when I turn ON shadows: WINEshadedWshadows.mov

The fluids seem to be located in another place other than where they simulated, but their SHADOW seems to be placed right.

I have removed the .pai .par from the zipped project file to conserve space, so you will need to resimulate.

I am getting this all together for an AMReport, but wanted to see if it was just me.

AND ANOTHER THING... if I turn on any refraction or reflections, the render will stall.

Just trying a render now ,might take a minute

Seems to be working ok now .I baked particles then got the can't find pia so unbaked it after reloading the prj and it worked, will post it in a mo
stoped it short ,Hope this is what you were after Matt

That looks like my 2nd posted movie...without shadows...try it WITH shadows turned ON for the render and see what you get.
steve392
where do I switch shadows on in shaded mode
John Bigboote
I'm sorry... I meant a 'final' render quality...

tried quick test similar results

steve392
Works ok in 15 j.I only done a few frames as it takes 9 mins per frame
heres the prj I used if its of any help Matt

Thanks for trying...strange that we are getting inconsistant results. I better try your project. John's test clearly illustrates what I am talking about... if you don't mind John...I may grab that and make a report. THANKS!

Matt thats why I posted the project

John - I tried your project and I couldn't get it to render properly with shadows on, even tho the real-time display looked good (after baking).

I tried it first without baking then with baking - both were wrong.

I tried steve's project (win-2) as well - and I couldn't get what he got - it came out wrong for me

I find it strange that after baking - I can't find anyplace in the chor (under shortcut to model) where it says where the .par or .pai file are located for the fluid particles. Ie, I do not see anything like one gets when one bakes hair. I know the files were created - as I can find them on my hard drive in the same folder as the chor.

It looks like the fluids are incorrectly translated into 2D space, when shadows are on, yet the shadows are correctly displayed for where the fluid should be

Thanks for the collaboration, Nancy... yes- somethings awry... I can't get my renders to even START now (in i and j) I get this for perpetuity(attached). I'm going to play with something other than liquids now.
steve392
Nancy I didn't bake it ,I had to get rid of it when I did as I got that pia thing .I done the sim fluids or whatever that is called

The problem here is that no particles are emitted at renderstart and this situation are not handled correct .
Maybe it's also the cause for Your second problem , must look into it now also , but one step after the other ....

(Update)
The secondary problem (false position for the fluidsystem) is coming from a too aggressive optimization :-(

While this coming up frequently, here a screenshot , where the properties for baked system can be found in the chor .

Thanks Steffen - I was looking in the wrong place, of course - I had been looking under groups for the model in the chor - rather than in the groups under the action/chor action

If You extend the triangles for the properties You can see the locations also .

playedaround with 15j+ lots better but it seems the particles start away from the source

this is basic same idea I posted before with no initial velocity notice were the fluid starts.... the side of the ball is the emitter

They starting outside for the reason, that they don't intersect the emitter at the creation time
