Here is Capin-L, the Captain of the Leviathan, and portrayed by me and my horrible Russian accent. Characters just get so much easier the more you do! I may soon have to attempt a photo-realistic face just for kicks!

Your face splining is improving!

If you're looking for a voice you might try posting an audition notice on a voice acting forum like http://voiceactingalliance.com/board/index.php

It's mostly fan-film stuff there so you can probably find someone who will do it for free.
Darkwing
hmm, a voice acting site, didn't think of that. I mean if worse comes to worse, we just use my clip, of course I should post it, I find we always hate our voices when we hear them, so an outside opinion would be good
Darkwing
OK, I started building Captain Walkins today for Earth Link Chronicles. This time, I used the face of the actor (photos) and so far, looks much better. I'll render out a wire for you guys tomorrow or something, anyways, this looks to be my best so far, though I'm not far with the texturing so don' be too hard on me there, but still give pointers smile.gif

Great tips!

However I'm finding it harder and harder to get my eyeballs in early these days. biggrin.gif

Darkwing
yeah, thanks for the tips, I know about the shape on the side of the head and the recessed eyes, but I seem to have great difficulty in pulling it off for some reason, dunno why. But I'll keep trying.

Tumble around a lot and keep looking at it from different angles. My own process is just to do that and look for things that don't look right to me and then push and pull those CPs until it does look right. I make a lot of use of the constrain movement keys so that I just adjust them only in the planes that I want them adjusted.

Darkwing
ok, so much seems wrong to me. One, this looks too deep in for an eye, two reasons being that it just simply doesn't look right and doesn't follow the roto, but popping it out gets rid of the profile curve it seems. Also, in the front view, to get the eye socket not to have a large gap when you rotate the face around, this is the shape I need, yet that is not the curve that an eye should have, it should be more teardrop (yes, I did study male anatomy for art last year). Anyways, can anybody point out what I'm doing wrong? Also, removing those hooks made the mesh really dense at the corner of the lip and that was what I was trying to avoid.

and then one more problem is the back of the head. Trying to get it like you have in the picture, this is what I get now, I still have the 3-point patch just now it's at the very back of the head instead of directly on top

A few notes:

If your mesh is too dense, verify that you need all of those splines to create the shape.

The goal is to put three point patches and hooks on areas that don't move. The vast majority of the head doesn't move.

I wouldn't run all of those nose splines all the way over the top of the head. Hook 'em off above the brow.

It's good that you see things that don't look right. That means you'll be able to fix them. It would be bad if you didn't notice them.

Darkwing
well, this is what I got and pretty much what I'm gonna go with. Still have to give him hair and things, but yeah, gotta say stop at some point smile.gif

And with hair, gotta add his ears and fix his face textures some, then make his facial poses

That's definitely improved.

Marks tip about the eye corner might still be done some more.
Darkwing
well, it could be the angle, because if I pull that eye back any further, it's gonna look weird (at least I think so), but this is Walkins at a slightly more turned angle:

And here is the model of the character Lance so far (yes, I do see the hooks right under his nose and will fix those soon smile.gif :

Here, I touched up the bags under the eyes some:

I've begun work on texturing. This time I tried the method of stitching the rotoscopes together and it seems to have worked all right. Some small patches need to be fixed and there's no bump maps or anything, but yeah, here's some more:

Long time no post. Here's a new character that's a WIP. Bunch of problems, mostly resolvable by patch flipping wink.gif

Well she's almost done, though I have to re-do her hair and fix the length of her arms. Once rigged, I saw that they were too long sad.gif
