Well, looks like Canada's not off to a terrific start, but I'm interested to see how we do this time. My main fear with it being on home soil, is that the Canadian teams will be too comfortable or relaxed, so let's hope that doesn't happen, and we'd better win the hockey gold this year! Last one was a disappointment for the men's team (though the women's won gold if memory serves)

I have just been watching the opening ceremony, which I recorded last night, and now I'm charged up with Olympic spirit again and feeling very proud of Canada even though they have had some catastrophes to grapple with. It is very sad that the opening of these games have been marked by the death of the Georgian athlete, Nodar Kumaritashvili, while practicing for the luge events. I hope that the track can be made safe for all of the competitors.
I thought that it was a little embarrassing when the forth leg failed to rise for the olympic cauldron but it felt a little flying the flag at half mast, out of respect for the fallen.
The projections were fantastic! I've seen those underfloor effects used before, for an ice show, but I'm not sure how they are doing it. I guess it could all be projected from above. I loved the whale sequences and the perfect synchronisation for the water spouts. The story telling stuff was a joy to watch but the ceremony as a whole was much less spectacular than previous Olympic openings. I guess it was always going to be difficult to follow Bejing. A great show just the same and probably more respectable to be less flamboyant in such times of economic difficulty.
Good luck to Canada and all of the competing nations!

May you get your snow real soon. It's been snowing in London today.
I wonder if the organisers sent us Vancouver's weather by mistake.
The circus is coming to London in just two years!

yeah, i never did find out what Vancouver did about the snow, I heard rumour they were gonna have some shipped from here (NS) cause we have lots of snow! And I haven't had a chance to see the opening ceremony, but good ol youtube is gonna have all the events on their page, so that's awesome!

Well, if I understand these stats correctly, looks like Canada hasn't placed in Ski Jumping, but Switzerland and Germany seem to be in the lead for it.

oooooh, that was bad. But seems Canada's one at least one medal since I looked last, was only silver, and our women's like killed some other hockey team 18-0

What an amazing final game!! I was at work doing projection, and I scrounged around with my laptop and found a net signal and watched period 3 of the men's hockey tonight and saw us score the gold!! Congrats Canada, we rock!!

Yup, pretty exciting, and I'm not a sports person by any means.
Gee, all we wanted to do was win at least 1 gold medal on home soil, and we ended up breaking the Olympic record for the most gold medals won by any country at the winter Olympics! We won a total of 14 gold medals.

Hooray! We got ONE gold.
Oh well. We don't have many mountains, or regular snow, in the UK. We need to think up a rain event.
Well done, Canada!

I became something of a curling fan over the course of the games. First from watching the women but then I found myself enjoying the strategy involved. I am not much of a sports fan generally but that gold medal hockey game was pretty exciting.
