Some of you know that I had a tumor on my kidney and had it lop off, and I was born with one kidney, and now only have 75% of one kidney. Well I watch a dime size tumor that the doctor said would never grow because it was on my dead kidney and not on the working one, but that doctor was reading the charts backward, and made a wrong diagnostic, and in 3 years grew to a size of a large grapefruit. Just so you know how fast a tumor can grow, and consume the vital space of the working organ in the process. BTW I am doing real well with my one kidney, and don't have to do the dialysis, and not even close to needing it.

My dad died of colon cancer, and his twin brother survive the chemo treatment of a colon cancer. So I went in early to get a colonoscopy 5 years ago, and back again for the second one yesterday. I have had polyps remove both time, and will probably be at a high risk factor. But if I keep those checkup in timely matter, it will save my life.

The process is not painful at all, and they give you wonderful drugs that makes you highly co-operative. its a day procedure, and you get to go home right afterward. Nowadays you only have to drink 2 liter of the prep solution. Drinking the stuff is the hardest part of the process.

I have seen too many people that died from colon cancer around the age of 40 that never think about getting those checkups, and they didn't even know something was wrong at the time that it became too late. The pain receptor in the colon is not like the receptor on your skin, so you really don't know, and by the time you suspect something is wrong, may just be too late.

I went to the San Diego computer convention about 6 years ago, and saw a lot of animator that for the most part were kind of out of shape, and thru the years, when someone post a picture of their working desk setup, I see the snack of highly process food and soda pop on the desk. I think that have change a bit maybe, now that doctor have talk about the computer gut, that people get sitting at the desk too much. However studies have shown that a diet of high process carbohydrates and sweet can increase your risk for colon cancer. A diet of fresh fruits and vegetable can reduce your chance of colon cancer. I'll admit I eat both and just let the 2 food group fight it out, but I try to make a conscious effort to let the good side win as much as possible. The statistic right now states that 1 in 10 men will get cancer in their lifetime in the USA. With health care being so expensive, it is a hell of a lot cheaper to do preventive steps, then the drastic last chance care.

Anyway, I just want to remind those of age to not let a colonoscopy checkup pass you by.

Had one last year. At 38. They found something on an XRay and then next thing I know it's roto rooter time.

They didn't find anything. Said I was clean as a whistle. Which considering my diet is something of a minor miracle. But I'll take it. wink.gif

LOL, if you only knew what I went thru! They were the hardest 5 years of my life.

In a nutshell, I was drug spike at work by a coworker which blew out my kidney, which the doctor said was minimal damage which turn out to be life threatening, with a emergency surgery, then in recovery I started working while a woman claims that I pick her up in my arms while I just got the stitches pulled out of my rib from the surgery, and got fired for sexual harassment, showed up in court to collect unemployment and they failed to show up so I won the case in my favor, counter sued, and the company went bankrupt and lawyers drop the case because there no money in it after the owner was wipe clean. The guy that spike me was wanted for kidnapping, and the owner never did a background check and she also went bankrupt. Then I get hit by a truck, a year after my kidney surgery, when I stop at a stop sign and the guy made a sharp left corner and just turn me into a hood ornament., and back to the hospital again. That all happen in 5 years.

Now I am fully recover teaching Bootcamp and Tai Chi, and doing few animation. But even between time of healing, I went right back to exercising and be in the best shape possible, because you never know what life has in store for you, but if your in shape, your chance of recovery from life is strong. I do have to say that 3D modeling is something I consider my one and only source of recreation. Life would have been really hell if I didn't have Animation master to turn to for a break. I got by waking up with a song in my heart, no matter how tough life will be.

Incidentally, my dad died, but my uncle survive colon cancer. My dad was a doomday machine and saw the world as half empty, but my uncle was the opposite and saw the world as half full. I really do think that finding yourself in a happy place no matter what, and find humor when things should not be funny is a survival trait that keeps you going.

All I can say that after I got hit by a truck, and I am still standing, is that I really am built Ford Tough!

Thanks for the info.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune with the Dr.

Have you told the medical licensing authorities about that mistake and consulted a lawyer? If the tumor had been treated then, would you have saved more of your kidney?
KenH
Good to hear you're doing well with (what's remaining of) your kidney. My Dad has a kidney transplant and is doing fine on it....a good match.

Yes I did, because I had the bill, but the doctor drop all charges, and the lawyers said it wasn't enough to go on. Looking back, I should have sued the company that hired a criminal without doing a background check, and for firing me when they thought I was doing drugs. I found out second hand that as soon as the coworker thought he was being caught, because he sent another cook to the hospital and they found a diuretic in his bag that he was spiking into her drink. He was trying to convince the former boss that she was going to the bathroom frequently because she was an addict and they fell for it. He did that to me, except he didn't know that I was born with one kidney, and couldn't handle the abuse on my system. She end up getting fired for the same reason I got fired. They ran the business so badly, and they hired another criminal that put them under and lost the house as collateral.

There were a lot of things I should have done, but I was trying real hard to put it all behind, and much of the information came to me after the effect, I didn't know then what was happening to me. That's when I moved to the city and start my life over, and leave all that behind.
