Some of you know that I had a tumor on my kidney and had it lop off, and I was born with one kidney, and now only have 75% of one kidney. Well I watch a dime size tumor that the doctor said would never grow because it was on my dead kidney and not on the working one, but that doctor was reading the charts backward, and made a wrong diagnostic, and in 3 years grew to a size of a large grapefruit. Just so you know how fast a tumor can grow, and consume the vital space of the working organ in the process. BTW I am doing real well with my one kidney, and don't have to do the dialysis, and not even close to needing it.
My dad died of colon cancer, and his twin brother survive the chemo treatment of a colon cancer. So I went in early to get a colonoscopy 5 years ago, and back again for the second one yesterday. I have had polyps remove both time, and will probably be at a high risk factor. But if I keep those checkup in timely matter, it will save my life.
The process is not painful at all, and they give you wonderful drugs that makes you highly co-operative. its a day procedure, and you get to go home right afterward. Nowadays you only have to drink 2 liter of the prep solution. Drinking the stuff is the hardest part of the process.
I have seen too many people that died from colon cancer around the age of 40 that never think about getting those checkups, and they didn't even know something was wrong at the time that it became too late. The pain receptor in the colon is not like the receptor on your skin, so you really don't know, and by the time you suspect something is wrong, may just be too late.
I went to the San Diego computer convention about 6 years ago, and saw a lot of animator that for the most part were kind of out of shape, and thru the years, when someone post a picture of their working desk setup, I see the snack of highly process food and soda pop on the desk. I think that have change a bit maybe, now that doctor have talk about the computer gut, that people get sitting at the desk too much. However studies have shown that a diet of high process carbohydrates and sweet can increase your risk for colon cancer. A diet of fresh fruits and vegetable can reduce your chance of colon cancer. I'll admit I eat both and just let the 2 food group fight it out, but I try to make a conscious effort to let the good side win as much as possible. The statistic right now states that 1 in 10 men will get cancer in their lifetime in the USA. With health care being so expensive, it is a hell of a lot cheaper to do preventive steps, then the drastic last chance care.
Anyway, I just want to remind those of age to not let a colonoscopy checkup pass you by.
