I've been reading Jeremy Birn's lighting book and he cautions against using ray-traced lights for particle systems like hair because they are so slow. So I wasn't surprised by the time result, but I was surprised that the z-buffer version had nicer anti-aliasing too.

Good illustration. It's good that Zbuffered is the default...

It would be cool to open a 'Digital Barber Shop' where you offer prestyled hairdo's on scalps like you have there.

When Stian did his photoreal hand running amuck I said 'where's the blood?" and I feel like that is needed here too... I was going to make a comment that referred to JFK... but I'll pass.
