Hey josh, that's a great help. I've often wondered about AO and this makes it all very easy.

Outstanding tutorial Josh!

Very concise and direct.
Much appreciated! smile.gif

Hi Josh

Great tutorial. I was wondering if you could elaborate on something you mentioned in the tutorial.

"A cheap way to use indirect lighting without using radiosity"

This statement interests me because, I am having trouble achieving that high dollar AO tactile look when models are in doors. You pointed this out in your tutorial that AO does not work in doors.

Is my only alternative to get that tactile AO look in doors by using "Radiosity?

I have seen a similar tactile AO look with skycast. would skycast work for this effect in doors?

The reason AO doesnt work indoors is because how the AO process works, the models surface has to be in view of the background (Sky) to be rendered visibly.

You can use lights with AO, they act just like normal lights though.

To get true indirect lighting you will need to use Radiosity. Perhaps I will make a tutorial on that, but later (I am not at home).

Alternatively you can set the roof of your indoor scene to not cast occlusion (Look in the models options tab), and try experimenting with different Ambience intensities and Occlusion percentages.

That is great info. Thanks. After watching your tutorial I have been reading a plethora of info on Radiosity and it seems like the holy grail for photo realistic images that are in door. Since you brought it up, a video tutorial would be much appreciated.

In the mean time I will experiment with your "roof not casting occlusion" idea to fake it indoors.

Thanks again
