The 15.0i installer is installing 15.0h for the windows CD version.

Mark,
If yours is anything like mine I think both CD and websubscription installers may be installing v15i but stating v15h in the designated areas. I'm double checking to make sure...

Try the "About" menu

It says 15h in the about menu.

Already done.
I should have been more specific and said A:M reports v15h in both the splash screen and the 'About' menu.
Its acting like v15i. (Going to check the list of fixes and updates to confirm)

Well it didn't fix the issues I was having, when going into shaded mode, with decals applied. So I guess it's back to 15e.

I just tried the web installer and it also say 15h and is missing the "Accurate Hair Transparency" property that is mentioned in the release notes.
So I say this is still V15h

Found the problem.
I went to the FTP site and found they placed the windows installer, for the cd and web, in the AM2004 directory, oops.
Somebody needs to fix that.

I haven't seen any tell-tale signs of v15i here either.
Looks like Mark is on to the problem.

And yes, shaded mode and decals works, yay!

Unfortunely, I'm going to have to go back to 15e anyway. I can't quick render a model with hair (my christmas tree), it rendered fine in 15e. Oh well.

Can't quick render particles/hair at all?
I don't know enough to know but it seems to be working here.
Its been so long since I've played with hair I had better escape before I spend all day here playing.
Kudos to Steffen and whomever is working behind the scenes.
I'm finding a whole lot to like in this release.

The model rendered fine in 15e (was created in 15e as well), but didn't render in 15i (AM stops responding), so I'm not sure what to make of it. I don't know about creating a new material and trying that, I already reverted back to 15e.

By Quick render do you mean Q and Shift-Q? I'm able to render hair in both.
mtpeak2
Dec 15 2009, 07:12 PM
Q doesn't work, but shift-Q does. I think it renders to file OK, though.
I Reinstalled 15i. I'm experimenting with a new model and material, it still does it. On a fairly small model, I can't have the density over 77% in the hair system and .01 in the emitter. I even tried to reduce the image size in a paint program, to see if that helped, but no go.
Here's a screen grab. If I go over 77% density in the hair system, A:M will quit the Q render. As for my christmas tree, the densities are much lower (.01 for both), but there are more patches which result in alot more hair (A:M stops responding at this point). It's most likely my PC, but it does render fine in 15e.

I downloaded V15i and wanted to run it, but it gave me the dreaded NEED ACTIVATION code. I thought I wouldn't have to jump through that hoop anymore when Jason tied AM to my computer ID? Why me? How do I fix this now?

I had two license files in V15h, copied them to the V15i directory and was able to open AM again. Thanks Rob. Now the question is which version did I install? The boot screen and about screen say 15h. From the above discussion, I can't figure out what's going on?

When ever you are going to run AM web you need to have a 'master0.lic'(that is tied to your computer) in the same folder as 'Master.exe' in most cases when you 'update' you just install over your old folder but if you install the new version in a new folder you have to copy 'master0.lic' to that new folder b4 you run master.exe

I don't know if this has anything to do with what you are experiencing (15i CD) - but I noticed that SSS was on by default (at least I don't think I set it) - I noticed that when I did an on screen render with hair - it was computing SSS (or reported that was happening at the bottom status ticker). I didn't have that set (I don't do anything with sss) - yet when I went to render to file - I noticed it was set to ON - I turned it off. Maybe that is what is bogging your system down?
I also noticed that I had to first save a newly created hair test model, delete it, then bring it back in before it would render correctly (or at least the same as 15e)

Others' mileage may vary but here is how updating has been working for me.
I always get the request for the activation code.
I go to the Hash Inc store, login and retrieve my activation code (because I always forget where I saved it on my computer)
Then I enter that code.
(Occasionally the activation will fail on the first try but I immediately try again and it then works)
Then A:M says, "Activation Code Accepted" (or something close to that)
The only time I've had the activation code fail was when I used the wrong activation code (from another one of my websubscriptions).
Fixed that by revisiting the Hash Inc store and grabbing the other/correct code.
I didn't know you could update and not enter the activation code.
I've never had to do anything with the master0.lic file. I've never seen it or had a need to look for it.
In other news...
I can't seem to install over the same A:M folder (which is just fine by me)
When I try to install over the same folder A:M reports it can't overwrite a lot of files there (Agent.dll, etc. etc.)
So I just install in a folder named the same as the new version.
Probably has something to do with my local security permissions.

Sorry Nancy, SSS wasn't the problem. The good thing is I can still render to file or use the progressive render mode.

Please open a bugreport for this problem .
With Your projectfile and the master.log .
Also I need to know , if render (Q) is failed only , when You try this for the entire viewport or also when You try to render
only a portion of the viewport .

I'll setup a project. Where do I find the master.log file? It only happens for the entire viewport, it renders a portion of the viewport fine.

Enable the logfile for the windows version
On the properties for the A:M shortcut add in the tab "Shortcut"
in the line "Target" after "...\Master.exe" -log , like the
screenshot enable_log.png .
The logfile is created after starting A:M in the A:M installation
directory and named master.log .
On the mac , the logfile is always enabled , because I hadn't found a way
to start A:M with a passed parameter , but this coming only from my limited
OSX knowlegde ....

Steffen, reported to A:M reports with project and log file. Thanks
[EDIT] I also found it only happens in a maximized viewport window.
