Hi! I am working on a project that uses matcaps for one shader. The whole time I have been working on this project up until now they have worked beautifully. Now they just render as black (The diffuse color).

The scene has AO and a few other kleigs. The scene has hair and displacement in it as well and cloth too.
I have plugins shaders turned ON.
It renders fine in the modeling window.
Most of the time it renders fine in the choreography, but occasiaonly on the scan-line renderer it will render as black. Every time it renders black in final render.

I would post a screen grab but its for the mascot contest and uhm well... its suposed to be secret I guess....
Here is a screen shot of the material though:

I'm guessing? it's that you have ambiance intensity (of surface property) = 100% with the surface color = black - try putting the ambiance intensity back to not set, and the ambiance shader intensity =100

Test it with AI set only (AO=0), then test with turning on AO >0

I turned off the AI as you suggested and it worked fine in the choreography window but still in the final render it rendered as black! And now the cloth is rendering odd! I know the diffuse color has to be black for matcaps to work with AO so I cant work around that. Maybe a restart and clearing of my computers cache will help (has before in a different situation).

Thanks!

Are you rendering from the camera settings or the render options menu settings?

I am rendering through the camera. I am rendering with these settings:
Fog
AO
Shadows
Reflections
MultiPass (4x4 or 5x5)
Plugin Shaders ON

I did a restart and I doing a quick test render, Ill see how that turns out.

You may want to try turning the fog OFF, to see if that affects anything.

15e PC - did not try with fog, nor in any other version of A:M.

Unfortunetly I cant get them to work anymore.... I will just render in passes and composite in After FX, (IE specularity pass, AO pass, Diffuse pass, etc)

Thanks

I guessing its the fog changed the setting or turn it off and see if that helps also what is the background color in the camera if black that could be the reason
or have you tried to reset AM under help choose reset

OK I've narrowed it down to the project, its is specific to the project only, (I tested on my XP partition). I am still on v13 but I plan to upgrade for christmas.

Ill just fiddle with things and do a reset.

Thanks!!
