Hi friends
I have been playing with Newton lately and have rebuilt the old trebuchet. I've made a new and improved counterweight and have added a rope with a basket for the ball (the rope is actually a chain, but it works). Let me know what you think

Looks real good and work's very well ,god help anyone in its way biggrin.gif

Wow! That's awesome!
How dense is the mesh for the arm? That chain wraps beautifully and there doesn't appear to be any penetrating geometry or any twitching dynamics. Great work as always, Stian. smile.gif

Paul stole my words.
That was indeed awesome!

Note to anyone near those chains... "LOOK OUT!"

Thank you guys!

Not dense at all. It is simply an stretched cube primitive, so there is no spline rings between the ends smile.gif

It looks great, but mark my words... our CG castles will not be safe from these CG trebuchets.

Very cool, Stian!
John Bigboote
That's actually very cool AND informative. Did the chain break?

Did the chain break?
The chain broke in the first tests, but it was resolved by setting 'Scale World' to ON.

The sling release is a small peg at the end of the arm, which I simply adjust to achieve earlier or later release

Wow really awesome!
How far can you fling thom?
zandoriastudios
What if you added Ken Heslip's Cave Troll--you are halfway to creating VFX to Lord of the Rings! Very very cool!
jimd
that is awesome !

(Just thinking of what it would have taken to figure out the motion by hand...boggle boggle boggle...)

I made this castle long time ago, but due to the limitations to the old Newton, I was not able to simulate it until now (thanks Steffen!).
I made this before I made the new trebuchet, so in this video I've used the old one. However, I am going to make a new video with the new trebuchet when I find some time

That looks great!

But now we're all going to have to keep dragons patrolling our airspace to protect us from flying boulders.
Paul Forwood
Superb! smile.gif
williamgaylord
That is pretty amazing! Better keep these aimed away from that gorgeous cathedral!

Interesting that some of the stones stick in the ground surface like they might in soil. Was that on purpose, or was it a happy accident?

Have you thought of throwing a car with the trebuchet yet? biggrin.gif

That was not on purpose I am afraid. It was a bug in my setup. It has been corrected (just not resimulated and rendered)

Awesome
Such smooth movement
Love it.
