Hey Everyone,

I'm using the following process to prepare my model for A:M paint:

1.In an action I flatten the part of the model I want to paint on.
2.I stamp a "Blank White PNG image" onto the flattened portion.
3.I open A:M paint and begin doing just a normal paint on the part(NOT A PROJECTION PAINT)
4.Then I save the "White Image" that I paint on as a new PNG file name and X out of Paint

THEN THE TROUBLE BEGINS when I open the model in a Choreography
The part I painted seems blown out and illuminated.

When I open just the model in a model window and set the mode to see the surfaces, the texture is there, But in the choreography, it is blownout bright although none of the other textures are.(The other colors & textures are not done with Paint)

I don't get that result.

I made two copies of a white test decal and put both on the same model.

Then I just painted on the top one in AMPaint.

When i render the model in a chor with default lighting they both look to have the same brightness:

Is your decal getting changed to "ambiance" rather than "color"?

here's what happens if the top is set to "Ambiance intensity" rather than "color"

Where do you set it to color rather than Ambience?? That seems to appear like the problem I'm getting.

In the DECAL container, there are IMAGES, and when you hit the property triangle for each one, you will see a property called TYPE. Change this to color rather than ambient intensity (if this is what is wrong)

Is your blank PNG image coming from Photoshop? Then that is your problem. Photoshop have the bad habbit of putting a gAMA field in the png file with a value of 2.2 in there without asking if it is appropriate or not and without appropriately gamma correct the image and the A:M png reader interprets that and corrects the image as told so by that field. There is a free png plugin alternative called SuperPNG floating on the web for photoshop. Use this plugin and specify that you don't want any additional tags in the file when saving. Alternatively, there are several utilities for stripping the gAMA field from png files. I use the utility called pngcrush for that.

This sounds like another reason to keep using TGAs.

Hey,

I've tried several formats which did come from Photoshop originally. Actually I've tried Jpgs, PNG's.....I'll try the Targa route just to make sure....The damage may have been done in the original image though. Thanks for these responses...All really helpful in finding the solution....

Another possibility is that I'm using IB lighting and one additional light...But even then, the behavior seems to come from the image.

I personally like png files but I am using older photoshop version 4 which doesn't embed any icc profiles or gamut values. Alternatively you can use gimp or paintshop pro, both work very well.

Instead of using a blank white png you can use my grid which will also help when positioning multiple stamps on a single image.

Make sure you make copies of the grid and name them accordingly so you can identify them when adding to your project.
