I am trying to light a scene using two iterations of a kleig light in a choreography to light a scene in which a character walks from darkness to a microphone in the light. Though I know very little about lighting, I've perused these forums and have read from David Rogers' "A:M A Complete Guide". I want the character to approach the mic casually but the length between his first appearance in the light to being at the mic should be only a few seconds.

What settings do I apply to the kleigs to allow for this? Right now the spread of light from the center of the light on the ground to where it falls into darkness looks nice (see attached) but is too large to allow for the short, casual appearance of my character. I've messed with the character's transparency over time as well as various settings of the lights, but am not getting the desired results yet.

Any ideas?

Adjust the cone angle and the falloff length, those are the two that if adjusted right can get the affect you are looking for.

Hi I used this rim light for a spot for this demo for you
you can adjust the cone angle in it's property widow
i also added volumetric same property window ( options / volumetric )to the light in case you want to pump up the spotlight look

Thanks, J -

Your spotlight looks cool but I managed to get mine to work okay.
