Full Version: Two problems solved

1) when I first invoke A:M Painter from A:M the paint app will run and appear but not show the model. The model and its decal have been saved already.

If I wait several minutes it might show, but usually not. I have to "Return to A:M". A:M will be frozen for several more minutes until the small report box from A:M Painter appears and I click the quit button. Then I regain control of A:M

If I invoke A:M a second time, things are faster like I would expect. But how do I avoid that first 5-minute round trip to use A:M Painter?

Update: Filip has told me that both A:M and 3DPaint need "internet access" to communicate with each other. My firewall was blocking that; when I unblocked them the transfer worked much faster.

Thanks, Filip!

2) how do I get "Projection" paint to not paint all the way thru an object? Regular paint paints just on the visible front surface, which is what i would expect, but Projection paint paints thru to any other patches behind the front surface that I'm looking at.

Update: solution below

Robert Im not very good with pain etr yet and realy just started getting into it but what I done was make groups in AM of what you want to paint and just open that in painter

If you already know which patches you want to paint with projection-mode, you can group them in A:M and hide the others in 3dpainter. Would be my workaround for it.

Over in the options panel (on the right side of screen, below the color selector), make sure the "Only paint visible pixels" button is turned on.

It works on the Mac version.

Options Panel?

This is all I've got....

EDIT... I found it, it's only there when projection paint has been started.

EDIT

you found it.

When I'm about to paint a model in Painter I almost always make specific groups like "Front" and "Bottom Arm" or whatever. Then I can lock or hide those groups in Painter.

Does nobody else have this long wait to get A:M Painter going?

I typically run A:MPainter as a standalone, rather than as a plug-in. And I have both (A:M & Painter) applications open at the same time - seems to work better for me.

My suspicion is that when run as a plug-in - that there is some funny business with painter needing to be a "server" ?

If you send me the project file, I could have a look to see what's happening because it's not normal that it takes several minutes.
robcat2075
It's not a particular project or model.

The first time I try to go from A:M to Painter in any A:M session the model wont' appear in Painter. (If I go to "File>Reload Model" it will say "no model is loaded".) If I go to "File>Return to A:M" that's when the freeze happens. Eventually the "3D Painter Integration" window will appear in A:M and I can hit "Close 3D Painter" and regain control.

If I try again (without quitting A:M) everything works normally, but that first trip is always a problem.

Late post here but Zarwin is right, make groups first for hiding. I also make a base texture and do my decals first then pop over to 3d paint. I have run into times where Paint simply stops working but if you save frequently then that doesn't seem to happen and happens less when run as a stand alone (guessing its running out of memory).

For kicks launch 3d paint first then AM.

1 feature that is missing in 3d painter that I used in body paint and painter 3d is the ability to paint texture images and have a scale and rotate option. Even if it only had a scale option that would be fine since its just as easy to rotate the model in the view.

I've reinstalled both A:M and 3D Painter, but now when I RMB in the A:M model window to go to 3DPainter the model never opens up in 3DPainter no matter how long I wait.

That just starts a 2nd instance of 3D Painter when I go to 3D Painter from the model window. The first one seems to be ignored.

It is not a real solution, but you can of course open a model-file in 3dpainter directly without using A:M to open 3dp.
