Hi Guys,

I have a project at work on the Fosters packaging and for confidentiality reasons unfortunately cannot say more.

I am having a problem creating a metallic surface. The first image is my AM rendering and the second is the metallic look I am trying to achieve. (without the droplets)

I did find a tutorial on the Renderosity sight (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/tutorial/index.php?tutorial_id=63) but it was written for version 9 and things have moved on since then. Most of the settings are in the latest version of AM but I am still unable to create a believable look.

If you could give me some basic settings for a metallic surface or point me in the right direction (tutorials etc) I would really appreciate it.

Thanks, John

The first one I see is the one with the tab and droplets. Is that the look you do want or the look you dont' want?

I'm presuming the AM version is really the second one?

What you're going to want to play with is lighting and specularity. I would even consider starting with a darker color for your surface color, knowing that you are going to be achieving the visual color in the lighting and specularity.

If it's the glint that runs down the length of the can you want, the Ward shader does that.

But light placement is 90% of what got them that look on their real can. I've changed the default light angles in this shot.

The can glint material has everything but the can color in it. Settings will need to be tweaked for every lighting set up. You need to have "Plugin Shaders" on in the render settings.

This was done with basic surface settings, decals, and lighting. Also want to play around with shaders.
