Seeing as how S.O. is going to be finished, is there a possibility that Greed nor Bubbling Goo might make it into the movie?
If someone animates them, I imagine they will probably make it into the movie. Martin is a big fan of songs, so I'm sure he will push to have any completed songs included in the final release. He did that with TWO as well, even though the general feedback seemed somewhat less than overwhelmingly positive.
If there is time and energy left after everything else is done, I may try my hand at one or two songs, but that won't be anytime soon.
It seems that maybe a song is even more challenging to pull off than a normal shot. I haven't done any kind of exhaustive study on songs within animated movies, but my impression is that the animation within the song must be poignant and relevant while also communicating a well defined message (like any animation), but unlike a normal shot, it must also stand on its own, tell a complete story within its own right, in addition to enhancing or clarifying the overall story within which it is contained. Otherwise, it seems to turn into gratuitous "fluff".
I really like the Yoop song from TWO, even though I guess it turned off some people. For me, it stands on its own, by itself. The song rounds out Mrs. Yoop. It tells people that her husband has been imprisoned and that she is dreadfully lonely (and insane) as a result - and that is why she is so fixated on turning the protagonists into playthings to keep her amused during her long lonely hours cooped up in the castle. The actions for the most part are deliberate, relevant and even add to Yoop's character development. As a result, I think the song conveys a well defined message by itself and also enhances the overall story.
The "We're Off We're Gone" song has similar qualities. It is almost an indispensable part of the movie. Unfortunately, its scope kept expanding and it turned into one of those hallways that keeps getting longer no matter how fast you run.
Some of the other TWO songs didn't seem to be quite as successful. They seemed to me to be just a bunch of random motion to fill the time.
