Is this live action? Perhaps do your "Figure Drawing" skit or some variation on it (you know: kill 2 birds, etc) if you haven't picked another script, or don't want to do another, or are not restricted in some other way -

But I agree with Spleen - sounds like a good learning opportunity - can always apply principles, experience learned to animation (if that's your true love).

Yes, live action. What I don't like about live action is having to get actors together to film it. I don't have very many friends who live near me (they all moved into the city; I prefer the far suburbs) so it is always a hassle.

The theme and part of the story was forced upon me. Essentially, a watch collector gives away all his watches for a watch he perceives to be of incredible value, but it turns out to be a fake, so his greed is rewarded with losing everything. The theme we are all using is "greed destroys the object of its pursuit," and there are specific camera moves we have to use, and are allowed no dialogue.

I really do enjoy this, but production is stressful right now. I'll post the result when it is all done. (I may have to do some set editing with A:M in post)

Thanks for the encouragement, folks!

I have no doubt you will do a fabulous job!

Have you tried puting up some posters at school, at local theatrical groups, library or shopping centre asking for volunteers to audition? You might get lucky.

My son is doing the same thing on his course. He is collaborating with a couple of other students but seems to have landed most of the work. They have gone to the lengths of hiring some local actors, which I think is not really necessary for a student work, but they seem to know what they are trying to achieve and feel that getting some people who know how to take direction should help get a better looking movie and reduce the amount of coaching time. I would prefer that he tried for some good amateurs first but it is a another part of the movie making challenge that they wanted to experience, including the multi-million pound public liability insurance that they have had to take out in order to film in some of the locations that they have chosen. All good experience.

The project goes well thus far. For some reason (my control-freakness no doubt,) I have decided to replace 90% of the skies in my footage. Pain in the butt. Why can't EVERYTHING expose perfectly the first time? =)
This is so not CG.

Urgh...only one week of production left, then final exams and school is out until July 13th...
I want to get back to my animation.

Building them from scratch with splines is so much easier. wink.gif

Why Animated Characters are Better than Real Actors
They don't argue with you and whine about being told what to do.
They refrain from "helpful" suggestions.
You don't have to feed them.
They don't consider themselves "artists."
They are never late.
Actors touch their face when you don't want them to.
Animated characters aren't aware of the camera unless you make them.
Their makeup does not smear.
They don't flub lines.
You don't pay them as much. You don't pay them at all!
They look exactly how they should for their parts.
You can throw them over a cliff without a lawsuit.
Killing them on camera is not a crime.

And best of all...
...animated characters are ready to go at 3 am when you have that flash of inspiration. =)

I like the opening, very interesting. and the story, even through it was a assigned story line. it's got great potential for magic and mayhem wink.gif

Back to class this Monday. I face such frivolities as "Storyboarding", "Statistics", and "3D Modeling"

I look forward not at all to modeling as we will use M... which I HATE.
Wish me luck tongue.gif

Does anyone like that "M..." program, I sure dont.

Yeah well I will bravely face my fate anyhow and get A's. After all, my first 3D program was POV-RAY. smile.gif

This too, shall pass.

3D modeling class goes ... painfully.
M@ya & I hate each other.
I (literally) have more years of 3D experience than my instructor.
I hate "building" models rather than gracefully "drawing" them.

More homework, check back later.

Moving. Again. One block North.
Chaos.

I feel your pain, my sincere sympathies ...

Kat & Nancy - thanks so much for the encouragement - these are annoying times.

Nancy - I'm actually looking forward to this move, even though it brings chaos.

Kat - I'm planning to move from horrible, hellish Chicago to warm-sunny-(crazy)-California next year after graduation and force my way into a post-production/visual fx positon/positions, then eventually start my own post-house/studio.

I am determined - nothing will stand in my way without being run over. =) (including idiotic pot-head partners in group projects, long story.)

I had to look that up "post-production/visual fx position/positions, " you'll be right in the think of thing. what a exciting position. cool.gif
