I am a complete newbie when it comes to Material and texturing. It maybe best to show you .

I am using the render lines as you can see. But the rest renders flat. All I want to do is put a little texturing or roughness on the wall, fridge and other stuff. I have tried the roughness and roughness scale but it seems to only work with reflectivity is ON. I don’t want the colors picked up from the other objects I just want the item not to look flat.

Any tips

I don't know what you mean by "rightness".
DJBREIT
It should have been roughness.

If you set "Toon Shading">method to "Standard" in your material or surface it will shade normally.

You still need to turn Toon Shading on in render options but leave all sub options OFF

That did the trick.smile.gif

Thanks

Hi Hazard, welcome to A:M!

I presume he got what he wanted which was toon-line but with regular 3D shading, like his drawing was.

Be sure you do the exercises in "The Art of A:M" (booklet or pdf) that came with your A:M. that includes a small introductory chapter on materials that will get you started. And then you can alwasy ask more here on the forum.

Sorry
I should have put a before and after image.

the problem I had was the roughness and roughness scale was not showing up. it was because I had the “Toon Shading” set to “toon” instead of “standard”

The roughness and roughness (see note) scale dose not work in "toon" mode. Since "toon" mode is rendeard flat like the old Buggs bunny cartoons. Also bump maps don't work ether. Look at the tile and you will see.

Note the material system dose work with “Toon Shading” set to “toon” but some texture tools in "Surface" don't work or only work with other suff set. like roughness and roughness scale will work if you have"Reflectivity" set.
