I can't find how to create a decal with text that is transparent everywhere but the text.

I am making the printing on the bottom of a tin can with an experation date.

The GIMP says I have the alpha channel set to the color of the background but I must have something wrong.

Sounds like you need to be using an alpha channel decal set to 'cookie cut'. What file type are you trying? Should be using .tga file.

You can use a color decal with an alpha map...

or

You can use a color decal specifying a key color...

or

You can use a cookie cutter map.

Off the top of my head.

Lesson number 1:

Don't think you have the transparency set in the alpha channel......know you have it set.

I put it in as a targa, this time with the transparency actually set in the decal and it worked just like it is supposed to.

Thanks for the help, now if you could only fix my brain!
