Hi everyone. Quick question...I'm trying to follow Jeff Paries tut for making a burning material effector ( http://www.digitalproducer.com/pages/mater...n_animation.htm ). It looks like an excellent effect and the tut seems clear and concise. Enter me! It's been written for A:M '99 and I suppose things have changed. It says "...on the Raytrace tab, enter 100 into the transparency field. Click in the Override Base Attribute box" I can't seem to find either of these. Am I going crazy? Another bit I can't find is the Aim field. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

I think this should work in V15

I did this in v10

Hi John,
I have a question about Material-Effectors... I really really like them verymuch, the only question I have is: Can it only be applied to one specific object like it is possible through a lightlist with a light?
If it already can be done it would be great, otherwise I would write and featurerequest on it.

See you

Unfortunately Masterial Effectors effect everything they touch but you can get the same effect by using a gadient and a pose slider I have sort of an example tut on my blog...see link in signature I recently posed a material effetor with a planet which I could switch to a pose slider if that woukld be useful

Not for me, I know both techniques (so gradient has the disadvantage that it is a bit more complicated if you want to burn two objects at the same time, for example... or if you need to burn a hole into another object (not in terms of boolean cutters but in terms of material-changes) it isnt easy with an gradient too. A material-effector is although better controlable (you just have something that you can grab by mouse...).

I will ask for it on A:M Reports, even so it may take some time till this may be added. We will see...

Thanks so much John! I really appreciate you giving up your time to help. I've kinda got it sussed with the example from the tut, but as you can see...when I tried to apply it to my cigarette model its not really working. Guess I'll give it more tweaking smile.gif

the bone in the material effector is the center of the effect and you have to set the gradient differently from left tp right and right to left keep trying best way to learn these techniques is through trail and error

I also followed the Paries tut and found that when I set the glow as per his instructions, it stops the sphere from disappearing but instead turns it into a glowing ball. Am I doing something wrong or does it not work in V.15?

just tried the old project in v15j

should be the same as above

you have to understand gradient settings to make this work
