Full Version: Quicktime response not in sync

I worked on the timing for my "SO" shot last night and I noticed something that has me a bit concerned and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Maybe it's something that I just didn't notice before but I don't think so.

While scrubbing the frames and getting the best audio alignment, I noticed after rendering that the rendered mov, was not in sync. It's off by about 4-5 frames. I recently updated my quicktime so I'm thinking it might have something to do with that?

Has anyone else had this problem?

I usually just use audio as a timing device in A:M and then re-add it later on in post. But we have ALL found Quicktime to be a bit 'wonky' especially in A:M---try converting your audio to a .wav and see if that jives better.

I'm pretty sure all the audio in SO are wav files. I think what George is saying is that the audio is out of sync after he renders a preview (shaded) movie in quicktime format. It must be a Quicktime issue because I am still using Quicktime 7.1.6 and I have not noticed any sync problems.

Edit: I do recall having sync problems in Quicktime when I hit the "Loop" command to have a movie automatically play from the beginning once it has finished.

Synch in renders has been bothering me for a while.

I might have an animation that plays at 24fps in A:M and I think I 've got it all in synch and it looks in synch and then the render to Quicktime doesn't quite seem to be as solid.

And the synch can seem to vary just between different times I hit Play in Quicktime.

I dont' know if this is a problem with A:M writing to QT or if it's just a QT problem or if it's just my imagination. Only someone looking over my shoulder would be able to say "yes, it was right in A:M but not when you played it back just now in Quicktime" so i've never ventured to make an A:M report about it.

I'm still on V13 and QT 7.1.5 (last version of QT for W2K), btw.

I've noticed the same thing - QT 7.1.6 and winxp pro. I really think it's a QT problem and maybe some way the qt preferences are set, and possibly compression issues (like not enough, or too much)? or because of the way winders handles sound (badly) & video, or one's crappy sound card, or etc etc ....
