Ol' King Kahroolie-Pants

All tests have 1 white klieg 20%, diffuse, 100% dark zbuffer shadows, 1 white sun 85%, diffuse, spec, no shadows.

I used AI=50%, AO=0%, global color=white, 800x800, took 25secs (4passes)

FYI only, to compare rendering with AO (global white), with IBL (no AO), toon render

Looks beautiful!

Maybe it's just the angle but it looks like the fingerbones on this character aren't positioned correctly. I know this observation is OT for this texturing thread, and I know bone placement isn't Nancy's department but it would be advantageous for someone to look into that before it's "too late now".
NancyGormezano
Robert - yes, I noticed the fingers as well - it could be I positioned them incorrectly - but I have a feeling it's something else (conflict with pose, gizmo, finger bones)

EDIT: And FYI toon render (moved to first post)
robcat2075
I don't think it's your posing; if the joints aren't in the right place in the mesh it's almost impossible to make a good looking pose.

I know it's not your department, but this is the first I've ever seen the character so I thought I'd throw that out there.

Its great to see you back in action Nancy!

Yay! He looks colourful! He always seemed really grey before. Nice work Nancy. Let me know when you're done and I'll look at the fingers.

The big eyes worked out pretty well!

You need to go to texturing school...AND TEACH! Fantastic!

Thanks for the comments people, much appreciated.

Ken - I'm done for now

Mr. BiggaBooty - My degree in texturing is from the school of "what can I get away with". Everytime I think about starting a thread to document my random-walk process, I worry I would cause Ken to go blind.

Nancy,
I've gotta say... that toon render really makes Krewel stand out from a distance.
Is the lighting different in that one or is it just the toon effect?

Note: I'm not assessing the large images with detail but rather the smaller images we see here in this topic.

Edit: Whoops I see you mention the lighting in your post:

The lighting is the same in all.

However, as far as I can tell, toon render with these settings, appears to ignore any lights, and gives a flat, unshaded look. Looks to me like it's equivalent to setting the model to flat shaded?

EDIT: Above is probably not true, as it appears there is some shading going on within model, and there are shadows being cast on the front projected flat shaded ground plane.

I haven't really played that much with other toon rendering, shading schemes.
