Just got the lipsync done and adjusted the timing to the camera changes. After seeing Ken's shot though, I think I might play with camera angles if it's OK. I used the camera angles that were already set up. Anyway I wanted to show that I am working on my shot so here's the whole shot (56 seconds) with just the lipsync and camera cuts.

I didn't get anytime last night to do much but I wanted to play around with the camera angles a bit. I like Ken's camera shots in 2_05_04 so I tried to get a vantage point perspective on a few of the cuts. I didn't really like jumping back and forth to the same angles for the whole shot. In trying to vary the perspective (and I'm certainly no expert on this), I'm hoping to add a little more interest to enhance the story.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on this. My next step is to set up the poses. I want to establish the camera angles first.

In watching this this morning before going to work, I noticed a few things I need to adjust in the lipsync.

I've reduced the file size as much as I could while still maintaining the screen size.

Only saw this today. Lip sync seems ok for the most part. It's hard to tell but in some places it looks like it could use more Mmm (both lips turned in) shape in the mouth. As for the camera angles, I'm not sure what changes you've made, but they look ok to me.

Btw, in the shot where there are no words, I'm expecting to see TW look exasperated.....like raising his eyes to heaven/sighing or both.

I was thinking more of a dumbfounded look. When I was playing the shot to get a feel for the poses and expressions, everytime I hit that spot where Tin is reacting to Pessim's dumb comment, I see Tin giving him a look of, "huh?".... it makes me laugh every time.

If you look at the first post, the original camera set up is there. It's basically the same camera angle for Tin and Pessim that alternates back and forth as they talk.

Thanks for the input Ken.

That would work too.

There is one camera move that is moving by one frame I think that is what you talking about minnor fix. But I want to suggest altering the 2 shots were the camera is behind the small character looking at TM. I personally would move it slightly so the small charaters head is blocking TM groin

Mark, thanks for the input but because depth is 2D with the illusion of 3D, I don't think it would be a good idea to put Pessim's head in front of TM's groin. It might look a little strange don't you think?

George

Yes, it wouldn't be good staging to have the two "silhouettes" merging too much.

LOL True LOL

I just thought that maybe a different angle might be better and that was a quick but not good suggestion but I would look for a way to avoid what you have now IMHO.

The idea of the shot is to give the "over the shoulder" angle. I think it adds interest while putting the viewer at Pessim's vantage point. I borrowed the concept from Ken's 2_05_04 shot. I really like his camera angles and I'm basically trying to duplicate what he did. What is it about the camera angle that you don't like?

Thanks again for commenting.

Sorry I see what you are doing here and it's a good idea to show Pessim's view point and the difference in there scale but what is bothering me about this camera view is that you are showing underneath of TM loin cloth and he might feel self conscious about the fact that behind it there is nothing biggrin.gif I know I would tongue.gif I think we should avoid camera angles that show possible embarasing positions for your charaters to be in. But this is just my take on it.

Well, I wanted to get a lot done last weekend but I had too many interuptions to get a lot done. I did get something done so it wasn't a complete loss.

I do have a clip to share. It's only facial animation though. I didn't get to work on the poses yet. Because I have just the lipsync (no eyebrows or smile controls) in the action, I wanted to add the full face chor action. There's one particular part in my shot where Tin responds to a stupid thing Pessim says. I wanted to see If I could get the right facial reaction. Here's what I got.

Let me know what you think. Remember, there are no body movements yet. Just facial and this shot is only Tin's reaction.

Here it is

Well, The over whelming feedback I got for my last reply here was interesting LOL. I seriously hope I'm not being shunned because of my political views.

Mark,

I experimented with different camera angles to try to hide Tin's groin but because of the vantage point, I couldn't really do it. Then thinking about it, I don't see the problem because to me, the green color looks like pants.

I went with the facial expression because after asking my family and watching it over and over, I do like Tin's expression. Here's the whole shot with most of the main poses done. I still have a few poses that I need to add for Pessim in a couple of the last cuts and I haven't done Pessim's facial expressions.

As stated before, feedback, crits, wanted.

Here's an update but the smallest I could render it without turning it into a postage stamp is 11 meg.

Pretty good, I only have 6 comments!

1) TW's torso floats to the first keyframe.

2) TW's arm floats when he first brings it up. (That pose should probably instead be an extreme shoulder shrug.)

3) To increase the look of hope & anticaption when TW says, "why, yes indeed!" - open his eyes all the way (force them if you have to). Do that right after P says "straw."

4) After P says, "nor heard of him neither," make TW look more crestfallen by pushing up the bottom eyelids & pulling down the outside edge of both eyebrows.

5) After P says, "pushing inconsiderately down with your footprint," TW should be looking at the bottom of his foot.

6) Finish P at end (you mentioned he wasn't done yet, I was just putting it in my list.)

p.s. the size of the file doesn't make as much download time difference as it used to here at my house
PF_Mark
As to Martin's #3 item I go as far and giving TW a wide smile and then opening his mouth a little.

#4 go more extreme with facial expression maybe angry or puzzled I would over act this pose and I personally don't like the flicker eye lids but that's my personal taste it is your shot.

#5 good idea if you have time but watch TW balance you will need to shift his position to maintain CFG to do that well you may need more time?

Hope this helps I state my personal thoughts here as just suggestions. I am hoping to get my shot moving as well.

Thank you Martin, this is very helpful.

Hi George, glad you're still here! I'm still here too.
I would love to see the pauses between the verbal exchanges shortened ... a lot. Right now it seems like there is too much dead space where nothing much is happening. That could just be my personal preference though.

WOW! I'm finally posting. Unfortunately, It's not much. I said I had a small update and that I'd post it. That was last week before I was hit with the worst flu I've ever gotten. I've been confined to my bed for the last 4-5 days and have had no desire to do anything. Here's the small update I wanted to post.

Now that I'm feeling better, I'll get back to my assignment.

In this clip I polished Tinman only. I got rid of the floating move, added a shoulder shrug as Martin suggested in the beginning poses and added the wide eyes open look to tin when responding to Pessim.

I also shortened the response time as Holmes suggested.

Hey that looks great George. I'm glad you are feeling better.
The frog should be rigged now. Maybe you could move it a little now and then so it doesn't looks like a lawn ornament?

Well, it's been a while. I was tired of making promises that I wasn't keeping so I decided to wait till I got my sequence done before posting anything. My problem was that I'd start working on my shot, it wouldn't come out the way I wanted it to and I'd get frustrated and needed to take a few days off to get remotivated. Then I got laid off and was too depressed to work on the shot. Anyway, I FINALLY got back to it and over the last 3 months I finished it.

Here's a low res version (11.29mb)

This is the smallest file size I could get for the 55 second shot.

Enjoy,
George

P.S.

I'm committing the chor now.

I know what your going through I posted in off topic about my new career efforts. Keep a positive attitude and look for opportunities now that you may have thought of while working at your old job. Basically try to make a positive from a negitaive!!

Hey George!

Congrats on finishing the sequence!
I can't wait to see it incorporated into the film will all the backgrounds, texutures and other assortments.

I'm torn between trying to encourage people that are struggling with life's challenges to hang out here in the forum more or break away so they can more fully concentrate on the challenges in the 'real world'.

Whether online or offline I hope you've got a good friend or two who support you.
That's what friends are for.

Thank you Rodney smile.gif

I'm dealing with my job loss now. It was tough for a while but I do have a large family and a few friends that are helping me cope. I'll be popping in to the forum regularly as I did before. My brother and I were discussing making a very very short animation just to say we completed one. I also was looking at another SO shot to volunteer for.

Although I could never animate day in and day out as a career, I can't seem to just let it go. There's a conflicting urge to animate that time always seems to renew for me. Animating is both very pleasurable (when I get it reasonably good) and VERY frustrating (when I don't ) but I can't stop hehe. It's a "love/hate" relationship for me laugh.gif
