I took a bit of a break from animating to make a white water surf for the bottom of the rowboat. It's a sprite material and renders fast. I think it's like a shadow for a character and helps to anchor the boat to the sea.....oh the puns! biggrin.gif

(The ocean waves look just a tad bit fast. I had to turn off reflections too because there was funky things happening.)

Looks cool Ken! Are they in a motor boat or just rowing? If they are in a motor boat then it should work pretty nicely. If they are rowing though, you wouldn't see so much surf.

They're rowing. I was trying to hide the straight line where the boat meets the ocean, but you're probably right. I'll see if I can tone it down abit.

To me it kind of looks like the splash from the boat should be from a boat going a lot faster than the speed of a rowboat. I would've thought it would just splash a bit at the front.

The effect looks quite good, but I agree, too strong for a row boat. A rowboat wouldn t make any white at all.

But if you could get that sort of thing happening where the oars disturb the water that might be very effective
martin
When the row boat gets caught in the whirlpool, the wake would look like that. (A clue that the water is going fast.)

Oh ok, Aye I still need to finish reading the script.

Looks good! Is the boat supposed to react to the wave? It looks to me like the boat is running on a flat surface at the same time the wave is going U&D... I think it would look best if the boat does react to the wave form.

CHEERS!

I wouldn't worry about the straight line of the water against the boat Ken, as long as if there is a displacement to the water, it won't be a straight line.
KenH
I guess I need to study a boat on the water! biggrin.gif I imagine Bill to be a strong rower so there might be a little splashing at the front. I'd like to do splashes at the oars, but I haven't a notion how.

Well, as Martin suggests, it wasn't a total wasted exercise.

Yeah, it's just a straight line for the test. They're displacement waves, so it might be difficult to get the boat to react to them. That's another problem for another day.

Good point Mark.
