I will texture the witch's table if no one else is. Here is what I have so far. Criticism is welcome. I think the green is a little to bright.

Hi Masterfunk,

Good start on the table. It should be old worn wood. At the moment, the colors look much too saturated. I believe there is an old wood texture somewhere in the "Darktree" folder in the svn tree. It looks like you made the legs of iron. That's cool. Please use an old iron texture, without the stripes. A little rust would be nice.

Nice job so far.

Hey that looks a lot better! Can you rotate the texture on the top part so the lines follow along the length of the planks instead of across them?
Also the slick "mahogony" look of the upper legs doesn't really match the old worn look of the table top. Can you weather those a bit more?

Definitely improving. If you put the table in a chor it'll look alot better with lighting and in perspective. Then take a snapshot from the camera view.

I fixed the lines on the wood and changed the textures on the braces.

This table probably doesn't get much "air time" (unless I can make it dance) - however its such a beautifully crafted model that it deserves bringing it a bit more to life

It's a good idea to learn how to use decals - more control.

Some ideas:

1) fix the grain direction on the top part of the leg (using a decal instead of material is easy.)
2) perhaps add a bump image to the legs, under skirt to simulate carving - make it a face gargoyle type evil image
3)play up the fact that the legs look like they belong to a nasty evil flesh eating bird. Make the nails transparent and a different color, put scales on the legs

keep going - its getting there.

I used hair for the scales and they look more like feathers now. I added goblin carvings to the braces and changed the wood decal.

Yup, that's looking creepier... also made me laugh (which is good)

Try combing the hair downward so that it lies more flat. The hair is an interesting idea - I had been thinking that the scales on the leg look could be accomplished by decaling, and using bump & color maps - but this is interesting - just a bit too fluffy - and as you say looks like feathers - which isn't all that bad an idea.

See what addiing some scaly looking decals to the feet part (the part currently without hair) along with some bump maps looks like.

Play with specularity and transparency (try 50%? or less?) to the nails - and experiment with specular color (yellowish?) - play with specular intensity and size - maybe desaturate the red a bit.

The carvings look good.

The scales look more like scales now. I added roughness to the feet to make them look like chicken feet. The nails have specularity and transparency.

The dark red seems a bit out of place... I liked the hair and the way it blended upward into the legs.
The scales... unless made to stand out a bit more will probably not be seen at all on screen.
These master texturers will steer you right.

I think it could use even more scratches, gouges and carved-in incantations.
As is... looks very much like a witch's table.

Edit: In looking again the dark red might work well in the scene... too early to tell as its not mixed in with other witchly things.

Yah looking better -

I don't see the roughness (your scale might be off, or the lighting?). Perhaps the feet should be a lighter tone/color. The nails could be even more transparent.

The hair looks a bit flat in color - It would be good to try a decal to drive the color of the hair to introduce more variation in tones - start with using an image that has random variations in brownish tones (maybe the same image you used to decal the corners?) - play with seeing how other images look to drive the color.

I think Rodney's suggestion that the table top could use gouges, scratched in incantations, sorcery symbols is a great one.

This is a great table.

I upped the roughness on the feet, changed the nails and the scales. The scales look pretty disgusting but I figured that works with the witch theme. I don't think I can do any other carvings because the darktree texture wont let me overlap any bump maps.

Yes, the nails look better !

Still don't see the roughness & the chartreuse green scale/hair is probably a bit too glowy much, and it could still stand some more tonal variation. I preferred the brownish tones. I suspect your monitor is calibrated differently than mine.

Since we don't yet have the final witch room setting, final lighting - we can tweak the tones, color balance later, if required.

As for the carvings, if you wanted, it could be done if you decaled the top (like you did the braces).

For now, it's a good idea to upload to svn (commit what you have).
