HI-

Here's another example of Newton Dynamics...This was the 2nd spot in the Little Caesars Pizza campaign I worked on recently.

THIS one features Quarters-dimes-nickels AND pennies (and- was my entry in the photoreal image contest...) which all fall into a controlled shape- a circle, which then fades into a pizza. You might wonder, 'how did you get all the coins to fall and stay within the circle?' Well, in the original Newton Dynamics simulation, I had a 'bowl' shaped object that contained the coins into that area...once I had the coin simulations the way I wanted, I simply removed the bowl from the choreography. My client wanted coins to fall hither-nither in and outside the shape, so I added them in afterward, in Hash. This spot had HUNDREDS of falling objects, and A:M did not 'bog' in the least, I am quite happy with the way A:M and Newton-Dynamics worked for me.

This ENTIRE spot was animated within Hash, except for the steam on the pizza, which was added in Adobe After Effects.

Do you have ANY idea how many germs are spread by money? Very unsanitary.

Thanks! Yeah---we wondered about the 'negative-connotations' of the coins and the food...but we don't write-em!

On the PLUS side...Little Caesars agency REALLY liked the way the pizza looked, which surprised me because it was simply one of their 'glory shots' of a pizza decalled onto a 'frisbee' shape lathed sphere with a color and a bump map for the pepperoni's. And then a little steam in post for that 'Hot-N-Ready' look. They want to do more!

AND--- I forgot to mention... BOTH these spots were created at 'true' HD resolution (1920 X 1080) With all the coins and all the reflectivity/shadows, it was still just an overnight render with multipass at 5 passes with softness on. When I showed this to my Maya colleagues, they said they would have done the entire comp for both jobs in After Effects, as they are 'leaning to' AE for more and more 3D and that this job would have been 'nightmarish' to accomplish all within Maya...

Now, I know After Effects, and AE's 3D capabilities... this job would have been HELL to do in AE and the accuracy of the 3D would have been 'phoney'... by keeping the entire 'magilla' in Hash I was able to ensure TRUE 3D as the camera trucked over the scene... I like to use After Effects as just that---EFFECTS added AFTERwards... like the steam, and I added some film grain...the 'sheen' to the medallion... I adjusted the levels a touch...

Yeah, I never understood why they put all that "3D" stuff into AE? It seems like the software just gets bloated. Leave the 3D stuff to the 3D tools you know what I mean? What if you needed to use the 3D from an AE file for something else? You're stuck with AE. Of course... uh... er... that same philosophy would beg the question... why does AM have compositing tools? I didn't really think this through... wink.gif

Impressive job... next time though, it you want to blow my shoes AND socks across the room, do EVERYTHING in AM. Just give me a heads up so I can aim my feet carefully and not break anything.

(I'll be waiting with my feet up. I should go outside and point them at my neighbor's dog... or the possums.)

Yeah, really nice work, and also great to see AM being pushed all the way for real world projects!
