I haven't read the story yet
Are there any other interior sets that are pretty much done, so I can take notes? Are there any notes or sketches for Cap'n Bill's room? If not, please join in here to throw in some ideas/suggestions as to what you guys think it should look like and what should and shouldn't be in the room.
Well welcome! It would be good to read the script. For now, I'll just throw out some history, and give you a sense of where we are.
Originally we were talking about doing ScareCrow of Oz in a whimsical fantasy artsy style, using James Christensen type imagery as inspiration. I'm hoping that's still true. The idea is not to copy Christensen - but to get the sorta look and feel combined with originality.
Christensen usually creates imagery reminiscent of Renaissance era with lots of pattern, texture and amusing, exaggerated proportions. Our imagery, models so far are all over the place in terms of era/time frame - late 19th/early 20th century for Capt'n Bill, Trot, Brautigan, unknown eras for other characters. Oz can be a place of many styles, hopefully never seen before. Most design, so far is not that close to Christensen - except for Bumpymans house, and maybe Googly-goo.
King Krewels Palace in my mind is ornate - over the top, reminiscent of the style of overdone ego boosting monarchys - however - I believe Alain was doing some exterior sketches of the palace. He may not be. So the style may be different, more fortress like.
I am not aware of interior sets that have been done yet for King Krewel's castle where Bills bedroom is (I believe the scene in which this is used is 2_12?).
In general - King Krewel has usurped a previous King, and has taken over the palace. Wheither he has redecorated in his own pompous style is not clear.
Prior to the bedroom scene Capt'n Bill goaded King Krewel into providing bedrooms for he & Trot in his "dinky castle" - so my guess is he provoked his ego, into providing them with a more lavish guest bedroom. But he could have provided them with broom closets for all I know.
The bedroom scene is short, will most likely be dark as the King & the witch peek in on Capt'n Bill as he is sleeping, to assess his threat status. I believe this is the set in which he gets turned into a grasshopper by the witch.
Minimally we need a bed, and a wall with a door. Yoop (in TWO) had a bed with a canopy (maybe could be used - modified?)
You could start by looking to see what Ken has layed out for this scene already as a start (proxy set)
Will think some more - but given your great talent - I'm sure you can come up with something pretty terrific.
