We’ll roast ‘em and toast ‘em and burn ‘em up good!
Scarecrow’s make bonfires like nothing else could!

Straw makes the fire, and bran makes the flame,
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same.

How long do you think to turn ‘em to ash?
‘Til embers glow bright like a long, yellow sash

Straw makes the fire, and bran makes the flame,
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same.

Do Scarecrow’s get hotter?
We think that they should,
Better than kindling, better than wood!

Straw makes the fire, and bran makes the flame,
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same.

How high will the smoke go?
Will it go to the moon?
Not long to wait, we’re finding out soon!

Because…
Straw makes the fire! Bran makes the flame!
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same!

Posting my intitial impression to see how it fits with everyone elses.
They say you shouldn't go with your first impression so I'm going to try to come up with another tune other than the one in my head.
Its more of a chant than a tune. (a variation on 'oompa doompa diddly doo)

All soldiers except youngest (smiling and smug - they are having a great time)
We'll roast 'em and toast 'em and burn 'em up good!
Scarecrow's make bonfires like nothing else could!

Large soldier
Straw makes the fire,

Larger soldier
and bran makes the flame,

Really small soldier
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same.

Young soldier (inquisitively)
How long do you think to turn 'em to ash?

Older soldier
'Til embers glow bright like a long, yellow sash

All soldiers together (except youngest)
Straw makes the fire, and bran makes the flame,
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same.

Young soldier
Do Scarecrow's get hotter?

Two Large soldiers (in agreement)
We think that they should,

Older soldiers
Better than kindling, (picks up and shows kindling as he throws it at Scarecrow's feet)
better than wood! (drops heavier wood at Scarecrow's feet)

All really starting to get into it now (tempo and volume increase)
Straw makes the fire, and bran makes the flame,
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same.

Young soldier
How high will the smoke go?
Will it go up to the moon?

Older soldier
Not long to wait, we're finding out soon! (suggest 'Not long to wait now, we'll be finding out soon!)

Young soldier (drawn out as he seems to finally get it)
Because...

All join in (including youngest who you can hear loudly singing)
Straw makes the fire! Bran makes the flame!
Orange, red & blue flickers all looking the same!

(loud bang on finish as music ends)

That's a nice treatment Rodney. I can already see the guards singing to one another!

Thanks Holmes.
That was what struck me as I read the lyrics.

I had some pretty good visuals come to mind as well.
As I visualized it however it was very clearly night time... I don't think the scene takes place at night in the film.

There would be something to be said for having the soldiers all chant the whole thing through too.
Some activity has to be going while they are singing/chanting to carry the story forward.

I have an idea for this one, Martin. I'll play around. Taiko for Rodney.
