I want to be with you,
No one between us,
I want so much to be,
More than your friend.
I want to hold you,
No one between us,
I want so much to be,
More than your friend.
I want to look at you,
No one between us,
I want so much to be,
More than your friend.
I want to be with you,
I want to hold you,
I want to look at you,
Be more than your friend.
No one between us,
No one to stop us,
No one to keep us,
Being more than friends.
No one between us,
No one to stop us,
No one to keep us,
Being more than friends.
I'd like to take a swing at this one.

Myron, you have been assigned to "I Want to be with You".
Are you the same Myron who entered "Myron" as your user name in the form you filled out in the instructions on "How to Participate"?

Yes, Sorry for any confusion. I suffer from it quite often, and I am obviously a carrier as well.
Homeslice,
I want to be with you is essentially written. I have to wait a few more days for my voice to clear up (caught a cold) and I'll send an audio recording, along with a chord chart. Would a .wma file work for you or do you want another format. It's just a sample demo, I'm assuming you have people arranging and orchestrating.
Also, I am completely ignorant about SVN. I down loaded the Tortoise 30 day evaluation version. Haven't installed it yet, but will. How or where can I get information and/or instruction in its use.
I'll soon be working on 'Greed' like a heartless major corporation

Hi Myron,
Sorry for the delayed response. Martin is handling the music portion of the project, but I try to read this forum whenever I get a chance. In the future, I don't think I will be assigning music related tasks, so run anything you do, or plan to do, by Martin before you you do it.
As far as SVN:
*
DOWNLOAD AN SVN (SUBVERSION) CLIENT AND READ THE DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO USE IT.For PC users:
http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/For Mac users:
http://www.versionsapp.com/The above links are just suggestions. Feel free to use your own favorite SVN client.
Some general guidelines on using SVN can be found here:
http://wiki.hash.com/index.php/Svn_Walkthrough(ignore any references to DotProject for now)
-------------------------------------------------
If you can't get SVN to work for you, you can either upload your work right here on the forum, or use an FTP client if that is easier.
If you perfer FTP, upload to this address:
FTP Host: ftp.hash.com
Directory Path: /SO/Audio
Login as Anonymous
------------------------------------------------
For simple previews and tests, I guess wma is as good as anything, unless Martin would like a different format.
When your work begins to approach a final draft stage, not necessarily the final, but getting close, please upload uncompressed wav files, unless of course, Martin asks you to do otherwise.

I'm anxious to hear it! You do your own arranging and orchestration - pitch adjust & mixing too, when we get the singing.

DISCLAIMER: My cold evolved into bronchitis and the raspyness in my vocals (which I actually kind of like) is not normally there. But I wanted to get something posted. This is just a simple conceptual demo.
I haven't gotten up to speed with the SVN yet, but I promise to in the next few days. I'm just posting the .wma here.
As I've been working with the song I've gotten a pretty good visual of Pon's performance, and the more I think about it, I might like to give animating it a shot. It would probably require quite a bit of hand holding though. I could always write up a little "action script" and hand it off to someone more experienced. Anyway here's the first draft of "I Want To Be With You.

Thinking about it a liitle more, I believe the scene would most likely be better served at the hands of an experienced animator. Here is what I see:
Fade in to Pon tending flowers. Late in the day. His posture is almost in defeat, his facial expression is sad. With each successive verse his expression and posture becomes more resolute and determined. More confident.
During musical intro, the blossom of the flower he is tending morphs into Gloria’s face as he sings verse 1 to her. His voice a little tentative and plaintive.
During first musical interlude we see him as he dances, by himself, the male half of a traditional English folk dance, pretending to dance with her, ending his dance moves as he faces a different flower which has also morphed into Gloria’s face as Pon sings verse 2.
With verse 2 his voice is a little firmer as though he is finally realizing himself that this is what he wants. During musical interlude #2 he is dancing with the flower with Gloria’s face, leaves for arms ( but no feet, just stem) dancing more like a prince and less like a peasant.
By the end of the interlude dance, the flower has changed to a 25% translucent (but not ghostly) Gloria and Pon sings verse 3 to her. His voice yet stronger and attitude more resolute. By the end of verse 3 Gloria has become solid and during the third musical interlude following Pon and Gloria dance glorious walts staring into each others eyes, but during the last few notes of the third musical interlude Gloria fades to nothingness as the camera pans in for Pon's close-up
During the “retard” arpeggio bridge we have a close-up on Pon’s face and see the emotional transformation of a peasant boy to a princely young man who knows what it is that he wants and can see in his face his determination to achieve it.
As he sings the last verse, dreamy but strong, he sings it to Gloria’s face made of clouds in a sunset sky. As he finishes the lyric of the last verse, he turns back to tending his flowers as a last short musical ending (same as the intro, to be added to the next recording) plays and Gloria’s cloud face morphs into the sunset sky. We can tell by his posture that he is a changed man, no longer the boy that started the song.
That's a lot of animation for a short little song, huh?

Thats pretty awesome Myron.
I like that a lot!
I admire those of you with musical talent.
What an excellent element of storytelling to be able to marry with the animation.

Not that we can't do it... it might even make for an interesting echo from a related movie... but in TWO Tin Woodman does a similar thing when he sings to the image of Nimmie Amee's face seen in the moon. It could be made to work but I'd suggest getting a good look at the finished scene from TWO to make sure its different enough so as not to be seen as going back too many times to the same well. In the next movie we'll just have to have the love interest's face be seen in the water.

Great melody, rhythm, wonderful, perfect feeling. Nice voice.
Instantly catchy - and very singable, by even maybe the tune carrying challenged such as I. Well, uh...maybe, perhaps... had me immediately singing along and moving to the beat.
Bravo.

MJL -- what are you using for recording? I'm currently using n-Track Studio (back in version 3.1), although I'm thinking of getting something else.
It looks like there are 2 different approaches for music software -- score/notation based and MIDI/audio multi-track recording. Most of them do one or the other, but not both.

Mouseman, I have a small project studio that doubles as my teaching studio. I experimented with the Calewalk software for a few generations but at that time there was a problem with processor speed keeping up. About the time that Cakewalk changed their name to Sonar I opted to go with a Roland designated recording work station. It's a stand alone digital recorder that has full digital editing capabilities. I now use a Roland VS 2480
RolandUS I may be adding a Computer Based Recording setup in the future. Most of the people that I know doing CBR are using Protools software. It's a strong financial commitment but seems to dominate the Professional arena.
Jeetman, I'm not offended, I'm glad that you liked the song, and I appreciate your version. I considered doing the piece in 4/4 time when constructing the song but went with 3/4 time for a couple of reasons. First and formost it had the feel and flow that I felt captured the essence of the mood and emotion that the tune seemed to call for. I also experimented with the Bm in various places, but in the end opted for a simpler feel.
Crafting a song is a lot like modeling a character. You attempt to give the strongest image with the fewest possible splines. Everybody puts their control points in different places in different ways, that's one of the things that makes it art, but in the end the image generally decides there the control points need to be.
Martin, Like you, it is my desire for everyone to have as much fun as possible, while learning as much as they can, by participating in this project. The words are yours, and the music belongs to the S.O. project. As with the images, the Director decides what he wants to do with the sounds.
Greed will have a totally different feel for a totally different character and moment.

You're a good "lead wrangler" Ken.
Besides my own health issues (which are mostly cleared up), my former Bass player and good friend for over 30 years was diagnosed with an aggresive form of liver cancer. I'v been spending time with him. I'll do my best to flesh out 'Be with you' and solidify my arrangement of 'Greed' this weekend.
The music will be mostly midi sequenced and can be easily modified to suit the proper needs.

Here are two versions of "I Want To Be With You". the longer version has Pon's vocal part done with a midi Violin. the shorter version has it with Piano where the vocal would be.
This is fairly close to the vision I had of the tune. It could use a little more tweaking (the timing on the bridge), but it's fairly close the baroque string quartet feel that I heard in my head. (My head's baroque! Ak, ak, ak, ak. It's 4:00 A:M I can't help it.)
Anyway, here it is. If it's not what you're after, we can change anything. Just let me know.

It's GREAT, Myron. Call this one done (for now). I'll get the voice artist to sing so you can put a mix together. (You'll need to adjust pitch, add reverb, etc.)
Again, very nice. Just what we were looking for.
