A pitch of this, a sprig of that,
A newt’s eye, a pig’s thigh,
A frog’s tail, a slimy snail,
All mixed into, a bubbling goo.
With smelly smoke, and party jokes,
With sparkly dust, and flaking rust,
With darkened sky, and lightning fry,
Don't try to hide, open up wide!
A pitch of this, a sprig of that,
A shark’s head, a mouse’s bed,
A bug’s butt, a squirrel’s nut,
All mixed into, a bubbling goo.
With smelly smoke, and party jokes,
With hordes of flies, getting in your eyes,
With snap and pop, the things you drop,
Don't try to hide, open up wide!
Pitch of this,
Sprig of that,
Smelly smoke,
Party joke,
Mixed into,
A bubbling gooooooooo,
Don't try to hide,
Open up wide!
It makes all the difference in you!

And now, something for your listening pleasure

That's great Myron! I already gave your apologies to Patti. She was waist deep in learning Cakewalk and figuring out how to transition from the analog to the digital age. I think my asking her to write a song served as a catalyst for all of that. I think this turned out good for everyone.

heeee heeee....cackle cackle... That is a really FUN, FUN, FUN song - Yes! I love it.
Nice touch of evil & ominousity, creepy, eery, some slightly strange tones that transition into naughty, good old fashioned, bluesy bump & grind. Clever.
You make a pretty good witch Myron, with your coy, flirty singing in places - nice touch. Its good to know we have a back up singer in case I croak - IN CASE? What am I talking about? I am guaranteed to croak this tune.
My one question is the end instrumental bit trailing off...perhaps it should be a crescendo-ish ending to fit into the context of the activity? That would probably depend on where Martin sees this fitting into the script, and that really is up to you & Martin. And it is probably great just the way it is.
I look forward to ruining this song! I will wait for your final version (you said it was a WIP), but will try and wrap my warty tongue around the lyrics in the meantime.

INT. WITCH'S HOUSE. NIGHT
GLORIA is tied to a stout post in the center of the room,
and KING KREWL is giving WITCH a quantity of MONEY & JEWELS.
KING KREWL
Are you perfectly sure you can turn
this maiden's heart so that she
will love Googly-Goo?"
WITCH
Sure as witchcraft, your Majesty.
KING KREWL
(orders) Then get to work.
GLORIA glares with haughty defiance into the face of WITCH.
????SONG start???? - guessing by Nancy
WITCH walks to KETTLE that is swinging by a chain over a
FIRE in a LARGE FIREPLACE and tosses into it several MAGICAL
COMPOUNDS.
????SONG end???? - guessing by Nancy
KETTLE gives three FLASHES and ceases BUBBLING.
WITCH lifts KETTLE from the fire and place it on TABLE.
WITCH spoons the KETTLE's contents with a WOODEN LADLE.
WITCH takes LADLE to GLORIA.
WITCH
(chanting) Magic art now will
change your mortal heart.
GLORIA makes a horrible face as WITCH forces her mouth open
and pours in the LIQUID.

WITCH turns to the KING KREWL.
KING KREWL
(orders) Tonight, start a large
bonfire. I will use its heat to
transfer the princess's love to
Googly-Goo. Just have both of them
in my sight when I throw my
incantation.
KING KREWL nods then beckons his GUARDS to follow him.
KING KREWL takes GLORIA and throws wide the DOOR and walks
out.

I'm glad you like it, Nancy. I've listened to it several times on several different sound systems to check the mix, and I'm tempted to leave well enough alone. I think the tune works as is, and sometimes knowing when to stop is a part of the "art".
As far as the ending fadeout is concerned we could keep the vocals cackling and muttering at the same volume over the top, and let the music fade as she waddles over to Gloria. (I'm pretty sure you understand "over the top", it's where you live and breathe.

)
But I will be very happy to make whatever changes are deemed necessary. When we get you vocals added we'll see if people can tell which witch is which.

Tried last night some - but found out my system is crap with respect to being able to record while having the music play - it records the "line in" along with the mic, even tho I have the line-in turned off - XP, real-tek and audacity do not play nicely with each other - tried everything, went to audacity site - it's a known problem. Tried following what they suggested...but no dice, made it worse....
However, I can use my husband's computer (my old computer) - which is soundblaster - and I am able to record there, while listening to the music - unfortunately some noise also gets generated - other than my own croaky noise...
I have to wait, until he's not using his (I let him call it that) system, to try again.
I am wondering - if I give you multiple files with phrases of the song - if you could then sync the phrases with the music? Instead of me trying to record all in one?
I'm having a hard time in coming in, in the right place, and I am trying to follow your phrasing, interpretation, emphasis. I find I can probably mimic better after I hear you and sort of sing in response ... especially the last part.
('member? You're working with an amateur reject)
And then again - given that it seems a recitation like talking poem type song (Bless your little heart) - I could do a scat type thing in 12 tone chinese flavored witchism (ok, ok,...1 tone) - Will have all the dawgs running for cover in no time.
ps. This morning I listened to your recording again (when clicking from Martin's blog) - and I forgot, in my experimenting last night, that I had changed some equalizer settings that the real-tek sound system allows for its "HD Audio" (with my 2 bit speakers, or even less that 2 bit headset) - WHOA! I thought I was listening to an entirely new version - Amazing what the real-tek can do for shaping the sound out.

Hope you're having fun with it, Nancy. It was written specifically for you. Yes, multiple files will work. Timing issues are a snap compared to tonal changing. If you want to make each lyric line a separate file that's ok too.
I was trying to imitate Mrs. Yoop with the vocals, and hoping to give you as much to work with as possible. Improvise, if you will, a little muttering, cackling monologue (semi-tied to the lyric) to help segue back to the story while the music itself fades.

Wow that witch is quite a talker!

Very apt. I'm not sure about the heavy metal guitar....seems a little modern. And overall the pace is quite slow but that's not necessarily a bad thing I guess.
Has witches talking dialogue been done Nancy? That's something I'd like to animate.

Wonderful! and crazy too!
Nancy you are a natural at this.
Myron... its amazing you can do that.
Many moons ago I thumbnailed out this sequence. I knew it'd be a great one and this music certainly confirms that.
My primary concern while thumbnailing was in how fast the Witch was going to have to be moving to get all this stuff into the Bubbling Goo. The audience has to have a chance, however short, to recognize whats going into the Goo.
The party joke for instance... shouldn't Witch read it to herself... laugh... and then toss it in?
There needs to be reaction from the Witch or King Krewl to the ingredients as each is added in. This gives the audience time to absorb it too. I had focused on the King's growing disgust of the Bubbling Goo which in the end is punctuated by the words, "its all coming back to you". This is where I had envisioned Witch scooping up a big spoonful of Goo and pushing it to King Krewl who reacts in horror as he realizes what he'd got to do. We'd close in on him with the spoon advancing and he'd issue a very visible and audible 'GULP'. I see these final words are changed in this rendition. The words throughout about 'Why do you hide, mouth open wide' sure seems like a focus on King Krewl's reaction. He doesn't want to look... but can't help it.
In my thumbnails I had started changing the wording too.
For instance, instead of 'one mouse's bed'... I had opted for 'one mouse.... dead'. (the mouse isn't dead of course... just playing dead and he'd escape as he is dropped into the goo and the Witches attention moves on to the next thing... giving the audience some additional information the characters themselves don't know. This could also hint that there are unknown effects yet to be seen from this Bubbling Goo) Yeah... more reasons I didn't pursue the thumbnails any further. Either way there wasn't a dead mouse in the Bubbling Goo. But the Witch and King Krewl think there is.
I don't mind the metal guitar as long as thats her general theme and we get reminders of it whenever we see her.
That'd add an interesting element.
I'm loving this and can't wait to see the animation!
Edit: As I recall the multiple times when the song repeats "Why do you hide, mouth open wide" could be variously covered by King Krewl first closing his own mouth that has fallen open in shock then proceed to the next instance where Witch closes it with a boney finger for him... then finally she reverses the whole thing on him and suggest via her song "Open up wide". This song provides for some great character building stuff for sure.

Ken - The talking dialog for the witch was done, and sent in June 08 - but - I don't see it in any of the appropriate folders on the svn.
Rodney - If I remember correctly - Gloria is tied up in the witches lair - and Krewel is there as well - I was thinking - Krewel would be delighting in the activities and that the witches purse, and other pets (eg cockroaches and others yet to be defined) would also be participating in the gooey bump and grind festivities. I thought the "mouth open wide" was aimed at Gloria - but having Krewel react as well is a good idea.
However, it wasn't confirmed as to where this song fit in the script:
fits in here maybe, huh?Who knows whether songs will really be included, as some songs became extraneous in TWO. Am I bitter? nooooooo....of course not.
Rodney

I sure hope this song gets firmly set into SO. Its a winner.
I agree that having a host of animate objects assisting Witch in adding ingredients would be a nice addition.
I think you are right about Gloria being the target of the Goo.
It really doesn't make sense for King Krewl to gulp it down
Note: I guess I was thinking that since Krewl was the requester of the dastardly deed he had to partake or the spell cast using the Goo wouldn't work. The price evil men pay for their ambitions. This might make sense in light of later scene with Pon who doesn't ingest the Goo either.
It is true though that by having Krewl ingest the Goo we might loose the audience a little.
I might hope for artistic purposes that we don't see Gloria actually consume the Goo.
A solid hint toward that would be nice but better to leave that part to the imagination of the audience.
What they come up in their minds will exceed anything we can do.
If done right the audience will actually taste it.

Ewwww.
For me the real emphasis here is just how nasty that Goo is.
I know I don't want to eat it.
I'm good with 'Gloria eats' and 'Pon gets zapped'.
I do think there is an excellent opportunity to suggest that this spell doesn't work on Gloria and Pon at all. (That'd be the mouse escaping out of the soup bit.) This would reveal in its own little way to those paying close attention that Gloria and Pon's true love conquers all.
I really need to review the script.

Nancy, you have no idea how resistant Martin was to exclude *any* of the songs. He wanted to keep all of them. I think that's one reason why he still wants to keep the 90 minute version as the "director's cut". I kept trying to get him to cut stuff because I thought the movie was just too long and drawn out, but he wouldn't cut any of the songs. Then he sent the long version out to several people for feedback - to a, um, less than enthusiastic response. So he cut 20 minutes out of the movie and people seemed to like it better.
He even wanted to include Robcat's final version of his song even though it was finished like six months after we finished post. I'm pretty sure Robcat's song was rendered, and I'm pretty sure Martin asked Jason to swap out the final version with the version we had back when we were doing post. I guess there was some technical issue or something ... not sure.
