A girl can be anything,
Anything at all,
No matter how short,
No matter how tall,
No matter how pretty,
No matter how blah,
A girl can be anything,
Anything at all.

A girl can do all the things,
All the things she dreams.
She can travel, she can study,
Play baseball if she deems
Ruling her own kingdom,
Regardless how it seems,
A girl can do all the things,
All the things she dreams.

A girl can go anywhere,
Anywhere she feels.
She has the power to,
Move the mountains and the hills,
She is unafraid to,
Endure whatever life deals,
A girl can go anywhere,
Anywhere she feels.

A girl can have everything,
Everything she needs.
Whether it be practical,
Like rakes, shovels and seeds,
Or embrace her vanities,
Despite what etiquette pleads,
A girl can have everything,
Everything she needs.

There is an audience here but I'm not sure of what sort.
Animals? Flowers? Statues? All of the above?

Perhaps this is sung near the pool by the garden.
The one in the midst of those beautiful flowers.
Next to the fountains all the animals play on.
Where all the young ladies go to dream.

Edit: After thinking about this one a bit...
Without knowing the scene this one fits into I'd say Pon could be the primary audience here. Perhaps not all the way through from the beginning but by the end. This would cement the fact that Pon is the embodiment of 'everything she needs'. Because doncha know, "A girl can have everything, Everything she needs."

This song is from Gloria to Trot. (Glorial is the older cousin.)

I'm not 100% sure when the overtime at work will be done, but I hope to have a couple of each concepts for this one and for Balloons (Brautigan) in 1-2 weeks.

Is there any audio already recorded by either Gloria or Brautigan in SVN? That might help figure out what kind of song might be better for their voices.

Great!

I'll jump ahead and Layout a sequence for each.

I was at work until 8:30, so I didn't have a lot of time to devote to things musical tonight. I snuck in some time regardless. I should have put Trot's vocals into I Don't Want to Go There, but instead I recorded some concept tracks for A Girl Can Be Anything.

Anyways, I put up 3 concepts that I recorded mostly so I wouldn't forget them. (I didn't record one idea I had for Balloons, and it's gone!) These are first takes, very rough (fall time allergies is my excuse wink.gif ), but hopefully they give something to point at and say "something more like this".

The first one is kind of bluesy. It's not very loud. First verse only.

The second one is ... I'm not sure, schmaltzy musical? Sorry for my caterwauling 2/3 through. First verse only.

The third is kind of a Peter/Paul/Mary or Paul Simon type song. Third verse only.

If you send me back to do more concepts, I'll try something on piano.

I don't think I've seen any of Gloria's dialog pop up in SVN (let me know where if so).

But it works.

I'll Layout one of her sequences for you to hear.

I like the second one too.

The first one would have depended a lot on how the vocal artist played Gloria in the rest of the script.

I liked the third one best. In retrospect, I think it sounds an awful lot like something from Sally Rogers and Claudia Schmidt (sorry for the obscure reference) from an album they did called Closing the Distance that I haven't heard in probably 10 years. However, it has almost a feeling of Henry Higgins singing to Eliza Dolittle.

I also liked the second one quite a bit. It was generic at first, but then I slightly broke the pattern I followed at places to make things interesting. It made me feel slightly clever. wink.gif I'll probably try to get I Don't Want To Go There closer to done and come up with some concepts for Balloons before continuing with this one.

Martin -- I think the phrase " No matter how blah" doesn't really work when sung. We might have to rewrite that one line. Maybe "dull"?

I don't know about you guys, but I really enjoyed coming up with multiple concepts for a song. First of all, it forces me to play with the style and words and phrasing and timing and tempo and time signature and chord patterns and arrangement. Second, it doesn't really take all that long to do, especially if you know you're going to "throw out" all but one of the choices. Third, it gives you guys more to choose from. Fourth, even if we throw out all but one of the choices, we can save the ideas for something else in the future.

At work, we're deploying what we've been working on tomorrow afternoon. It will probably take about a week to get all the kinks out, but I should have more time beginning this weekend to work on SO music.

Cool. Feel free to make other changes as needed by the melody.
