I'd like to start texturing the witch, that is if Ken or Mark are not planning to do anything more with her innards.

Is now a good time or should I hold off for a bit ?

KenH
I'm done on her but I think Mark might be planning something. Make her like your avatar!

Thanks Ken - Will wait a bit to hear from Mark...not sure he's around

Go ahead Nancy. Update first though. I updated the weighting and found a few rig problems that I needed to track down. Sorry for the delay.

great - will start later today

Still not finished - still tweaking (face textures, hair combing, dress detailing, color balancing...)
KenH
Love the face. Not sure about the clothes. I expected darker. But I'm not a clothes person. It's hard to tell, but from that shot, it looks like the top of the dress texture is low res. What's the green stuff on her hands? Magic residue? biggrin.gif
Nice work overall.

I love it.

Are the texturs scans from real scorpions? They certainly give the feeling of a scorpion - very appropriate.

As Ken said, the face is exquisite.

What ??? You never dressed up your captured bugs in mini-doll clothes ??? Before setting them on fire or pulling out their wings ? I thought everyone did that...

I started out with darker colors, as well as more saturated, and more goth. I tried doing a buggy beetle velvet or satin irridescent look at one point - but it was too colorful, pretty. Perhaps I'll post the "other versions" later. I didn't want the Bugsy Babe to compete with Gloria in the fashion category.

I thought the brownish, greyish, lighter would show up better in the witch's tree house, and made her look more dirty earthy. There are desert scorpions that are light colored.

The top dress texture looks too low res to me also - I was going to try to tweak that.

Martin - The top texture is actually a scan from rusted metal that was manipulated for coloring. I too thought it looked insectilicious. The bottom dress & hat texture is derived from a Japanese floral print. I might work on that a bit as well.

I'm so predictable. I resisted as long as I could. I had to add color... it was killing me.

A: Grey Goose (same as before with a tighter bump, & more dress detail)
B: Golden Leather
C: Bark & Blue Goo
D: Iridescent Beetle

I like D best, C second.
Rodney
I find myself entirely too predictable... I like B.

I think the reason I lean toward B is that at this point I have no idea what the background behind the character (both characterization and scenery) may be. I make the assumption that it will be a bit darker in order to create mood in the scene.

Another consideration is that I don't see SO as isolated from TWO and as an extension to the 'franchise' Witchy's personality should be different than Mrs Yoop (what great fun she was!). I don't know enough about the Witch to say here but keeping her a crazy witch yet keeping her distinct from Mrs Yoop could be a challenge. I know we are up to it. smile.gif

Added: For example, if Mrs Yoop is crazy 'outward' perhaps the Witch is crazy 'inward'... plotting... scheming... and such as would be revealed in the increasing tension as the climax of the story approaches.

Another reason I like B is that it would contrast well with the nice flowery dresses of Princess Gloria.
The Witch would seem to be antithesis of her. She appears to be one of the 'have nots' as opposed to Gloria who is ascending to the throne.

What do you think Nancy... am I too far adrift here? I'm just talking through it all for the fun and learning of it.
My wife dresses me. I usually wear what she prefers. (but even I have limits!) wink.gif

Gah... I just relooked at A again and considering what I just wrote I find I like that a lot too!
I think D would work well if some some of the color was understated just a bit more.

Very nice Nancy!
KenH
A and B for me too. Probably B more. Because it's done the best and it looks like she wants to be a Queen with all those gold colors. biggrin.gif

The warts on the side of her cheek draw my eye because they seem elongated. Aren't warts usually round? wink.gif If it's texture stretching, I'd vote for it to be fixed.

Oh! I wonder if we're going to do SSS on this one.
martin
I like "D". (I like Mood rings too.)
NancyGormezano
Thanks for the feedback all.

I've uploaded the Iridescent Exoskeleton witch - It seemed to be 2 votes for B and 2 votes for D, so for a tie breaker - I asked my husband which he preferred (and nooooo I did not tell him which I preferred) and he voted for D. Honest. So - for now, thats what's on the svn. She may get further tweaking later on.

Ken - I fixed the "elongated stretched warts" somewhat. Can't put anything past you. Drat you.

Not sure what we're doing about SSS - I've never tried SSS, but I thought there were issues with decals? and bumps? aside from taking a longer time to render...

Rodney - The witch has a couple of scenes - If I recall - inside her tree house and the "crowd" scene where she tries to cast a love spell on Gloria - I suspect as long as there is both light & dark, the witch (or any character) can be distinguished from the background.

Martin - It's good to have you posting again.

Nancy, you're so freakin creative. I love the witch. A, C and D were my favorites. Sorry I'm chiming in so late.

Your work on the characters looks wonderful, Nancy. You really ought to do a masterclass for Dreamworks or Pixar and show them how it's done.
NancyGormezano
Thanks Robert, that's very nice of you to say that. I appreciate it.
johnl3d
nice work Nancy are those dresses modeled after iitems in your closet.... wink.gif
