Besides Eggprops, are there other great sources for pre-made models?

Thanks!
Bob

This will be a rather long way of answering your question. wink.gif

The absolute best source for A:M models is right here in the forum.
There are enough artists and modelers in the community that just about anything can be modeled (if it hasn't been modeled before).

There are two aspects of model distribution to consider. I'm not sure which you are interesting so I'll assume both:
1) Free
2) Paid

Persuing the first means of obtaining models will generally (but certainly not always!) take more time to identify, locate, obtain and modify (assuming its not exactly to your specifications already). The quality will generally be lower.

The second means is more of a solid approach but can become quite expensive. A realistically modeled and rigged model takes time to build. The quality is almost always higher.

So, the absolute best source of models for A:M is right here just make your wishes known.

There are other sources of models available too:
There is http://www.3dfrogstore.com/ (They do custom orders too)
There is the Extra CD (Approx. 500MB of data with quite a few models. From Hash Inc)
There is the Extra DVD (Approx. 5GB of data with a whole lot of models. From Hash Inc)
A lot of A:M Users also maintain websites with models too.

Is there anything in particular you are looking for?

Thanks, Rodney.

If one our animation projects gets funded, I'll have quite a shopping list of items! So, it's encouraging that A:M is a great source. We're certainly willing to pay for quality work. We're filmmakers from way back but this specific genre is a new niche. So I'm asking lots of questions in the forum trying to get up to speed.

What would be valuable for us is to get from you a SHORT list of modelers you trust. That quest could be infused with political or relational complexity for public forum discussion, I don't know...in which case I certainly wouldn't mind receiving a private email with that info. If we had 3-5 top people you know who are reliable and truly talented as model craftsman (maybe yourself included) then that would be fantastic.

Cool!

Hey Bob! Welcome to our little forum!

Just wanted to let you know there is a 'Help Wanted' topic if you scroll down the list. Quite a nice website you have... does your project involve just modellers...or will you be needing 'all-arounders' who can design-model-light-storyboard-animate-composite-edit-etc ?

And are you thinking cartoony---stylized---or photoreal?

You'll find LOTS of talent here.
Rodney
Bob,
Thanks for the vote of confidence.
You are probably right. Airing business in public can be nasty business. wink.gif
By all means though email me with any name and I'll give you instant feedback.
If the talent is known to me I'll certainly make a recommendation.
If they aren't known in the community I'll tell you so.

A problem with throwing names around is that it doesn't always account for all the variables.
If not careful it doesn't identify the individual strengths (or weaknesses) of a given artist or animator.
Initially it won't take into account what type of work you need done either.

There is also those times when 'the best' isn't the best suited for the job.
Maybe they aren't available. Maybe they only work for known entities. Maybe they won't be interested.
Maybe they charge too much when compared to the 'next best'.

When in doubt you can always post to the Jobs Board.
Then people can bid on the job.

But look around. There is a lot of talent available.
Many would love to do business with you.

Hey John,
Thank you! I will likely need a few "all-arounders" with a key emphasis on modeling. I'd also love to find at least one person who excels at character design. The script and storyboard will be pretty tight since those are areas in which I've got some degree of mileage, though inspiration and creative collaboration is always the lifeblood of a project. Essential ingredients for anyone I work with: they need to be nice people and fun to work with.

As far as rendering goes, the initial thought is toon. However, I'd love to see what's possible with A:M in terms of stylizing something beyond Saturday morning fare.

I started this reply without looking at your website, but I'll go there next!

Thanks again for your interest,
Bob
