Hello all AM peeps,

So I just downloaded AM Web Subscription and have a few questions.

In my Libraries folder I am wondering if the Web Sub is limited to models, actions, materials, ect..

Cause when I'm following some of the Tut. I'm instruted to go to materials/metals/chrome, but I'm unable to cause when I go to the materials the folder it is empty. The same happens when I go to model tab in the lib. it only has actors and skeletons and no folder for props.

Also when i create a material then try to drag it to my model in the choreograph window it will not let me. But in my projectworkspace if I drag my material to my object group in the projectworkspace it applies my material to it. Does anyone know why this is happening.

One more quick thing i cant find an answer for. How do I end cap my splines or what is the best way of acheiving this. I have found that selecting the group of points and scaling them down will close the gap but is there a more efficient way of doing this.

Also does anyone have a basic spline tutorials to advanced modeling tut?

Thanks for the feedback
Rodney
First... a belated welcome to the A:M Forum.
I look forward to seeing your progress converting your 2D creations to 3D.

I'm a bit disconnected these days but will offer the following regarding your questions:
(If you don't get links and other information following I'll track them down)

There are no limitations in what you've purchased. What you have is what we all have if we have the current version.
For some reason the Libraries don't always install correctly on ever computer.

Hash Inc has a write up on installing Libraries and a search here in the forum should lead you to that information and more.
Here's the link, check it out:

http://www.hash.com/lib/

The direct link to the video that will walk you through the basic steps:

Online A:M Libraries Installation video

I'll be back to attack your other questions as I can find the time but... you can't drag and drop a material into the Choreography window as you can into a Modeling Window. Try the Modeling window instead.

Here's hoping you encounter much more success than frustration as you proceed. smile.gif

The approach will vary depending on a number of things.
Your scaling approach will work well in most instances. One thing to keep in mind is that you may want to Zoom in several times and scale as you go. These works well to make the opening disappear yet not lead to pinching/artifacts.

Closing the cap is another option.
For these times its best to plan ahead and consider how best to close the cap.
In general the answer is to just 'stitch it in'.
As long as you create valid patches this is the best approach when the camera/render will show the area close up.

For some of my simple structures I often use a 5 point patch to automagically close the cap.
Of course the cap will have to consist of legit splines for this to work.
You can get some strange things with decals however with this approach.
To test this try the following:

Lathe a spline with 5 crossections to create a cylinder.
Cap both the top and bottom by using a 5 Point Patch.
For low resolution models this works quite well.

There is a plugin called Endcap that may still be available. Not sure about that.

Thank you for your warm welcome,

I could not sleep last night, because my brain was computing AM. This happens when you spend 15 hrs doing one thing. Big thanks to your suggestions and pointers.

Thanks Again

Hey Rodney,

Well I watched the video and followed what your website documents to get your LIB to work and I was unsucessful.
I'm wondering if I even have the folder that you would copy from your cd and paste in the Hash folders. I downloaded the program and I have looked every where for a path. When I do start the program i do have some LIB that show such as a folder for actors, some tut, but nothing for Materials. Any suggestions?

You know... if I would have read that first part where he says, "I just downloaded AM Web subscription" just a little more carefully... I would have realized another download was going to be necessary.

Thanks Steve!

Hey Jasper,

Stick with it, I've used AM since 1999 and believe me, it is the best software anyone can start in. I work as a professional animator in productions and not a day goes by that I marvel why they don't use AM instead of the other difficult things we have to contend with. ALL my personal stuff is done in AM. You made a great choice subscribing to Animation Master. BUT you will find that out soon enough.

I downloaded to see and got a corrupt zip file message.
You can try downloading it again just in case maybe the download cut off or some weirdness but since I also had problems I suspect the file needs to be re-uploaded by Hash Inc.

Edit: spelling

Welcome, Jasper!

I'm a relative newbie to AM also, funny thing is, I've tried and messed around with other animation programs but I honestly have to say I'm amazed at two things when it comes to Animation Master, one is how easy AM is to use - extremely user friendly, and secondly, I'm amazed at it's abilities - shocked actually that this $300.00 program can rival ones costing several thousands of dollars!

Most of all, I have to agree that this is one truly friendly and supportive forum..

The 166MB download may be a big much more some people. Especially if you are only after the materials.
Attached is a 5MB file containing only the materials.
