Hep me hep me hep me sad.gif

When I try to make hair, the timeline is supposed to switch from showing time to showing percentage. It doesn't. I got this to work B4, and I don't know what I'm doing differently now.

I'm using V13 at the moment.

Graci.

Trying to hep....

What property are you trying to change? I just created a material, changed it to hair, and when I click on something that can be changed over time, like surface colour it comes up with a percentage as it should. Length doesn't, because you obviously can't change that over the length of the hair.

If you are changing the property in the choreography, you need to click the 'show more than drivers' icon next to the shortcut to the Model in the PWS.

I'm using v14.0c.

Greetings to QLD. they say it's supposed to be 78 there today. Might reach 30 here. Can I come visit? rolleyes.gif

I figgerd it out. One of those little things where I thought I was reading the manual carefully, but I missed this one. I was in the hair system instead of hair emitter. Once I got to the right place, it worked.

Tnx for being hepful.

(sigh)

Yesterday it worked. Now it doesn't. When I try to add hair to the selected group, it won't let me drag and drop.

So I copy-paste the selected group into a new model. Now I can add hair, but I can't do much with it. Fiddling with the diameter and surface attributes changes nothing. (Actually, the numbers and colors in the workspace change. But the model doesn't, either in real time or final render.)

And when I click on thickness, the timeline changes to percentage as it should, but I can't add control points. And all the buttons at the bottom of the modelling window are greyed out.

There must be something obvious I'm missing. angry.gif

Yesterday it worked. Now thickness & kinkiness will work, but I can't get the colour along the length of the hair. Attached screen capture is rendered hair, red at 0% and blue at 100%. But it's late here, and I'm tired. It'll probably work again tomorrow.

You are dragging to a named group? That worked for me.

You did restart A:M when it started acting weird?

By the way, in the modelling window, all the buttons at the bottom are supposed to be greyed out.

For both of you: I have found that I have more consistent luck with altering hair properties in the material - rather than altering the properties at the instance level (group). ver 13s

Not sure if that might be part of the problem?

Yeah, I tried both ways and it didn't work. But tonight it does. Nice to have it working, but I wish I knew what I did.
Caroline
Just for the record, I can't get mine working.

It's only the Surface properties that don't work over the percentage - they don't seem to recognise that there is a change, they just take percentage 0, or some point mid way. Thickness and kinkiness work OK over the length.

That screen capture was of the material.

But I'm glad you got it going, phatso - if it stops again, just remember what you did smile.gif

What I did was whine on the forum, then go sleep on it, then try the same thing again. Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice. rolleyes.gif

Hmmm.

Not sure what might be going on - Zip up your model and hair material and post here, and I'll take a look.

I wonder what what we might be doing differently as I couldn't get the gradient hair color to fail. Perhaps you have inadvertently changed some properties of the hair group in the model? Is the material embedded? (I don't embed materials). Did you do an on screen render before rendering to file? ver 13s PC? Sometimes I find that necessary to do before it renders correctly (tho that might be some made up folklore in my fantasy world). Render settings? (shadows, reflections, multi?)
Caroline
Thanks, Nancy - I think it may become an issue for someone other than me sometime.

I'm using v14, so I reinstalled v13, and reset the settings in both 13 and 15. When I load the same project, it immediately shows OK in 13, but not in 15.

So I shall make a report with the project.
