Hi,
I have a question to A:M developers. I'm going to buy SpaceNavigator controler (from
http://www.3dconnexion.com/). Are you going to make any driver for A:M? SDK is avaiable.
I can use it in more than 100 applications (http://www.3dconnexion.com/solutions/cad/all_sup_app.php), but not in A:M.
Is it possible in near future?

Ah I thought about buying one too...
Sorry, cant help you with your driver-issue.
But maybe one of the programms can.

I have one, its one of the coolest devices for 3d work, increases productivity, makes it easy to get where you want in a scene /or a specific area when modeling.
I think Hash should add support, its just an incredible device (personal version is only $60) and its available for pc and mac.
I've purchased controllermate for the mac allows you to map mouse movements and keystrokes to it, but native support would be amazing.

If I had the time I would get right on it. It seems like a great device.
I think you should post a feature request on
hash reports but if you're lucky some other programmer will get to it soon.

I've been looking at buying one of those too. Do they work with A:M at all?

that's a cool toy, but i wonder how much you could approximate this with a good wacom tablet.
they have pressure and tilt sensors, so you could press a modifier key and use the tilt to rotate, and the pressure to zoom or tilt...
i like cool, but since i already have a wacom... i like cheap too! ' ' )

It hasnt much to do with a Wacom Table... it is more or less only for navigation in the 3d-space and you can control every axis with a very intuitive and nice feeling, navigate on several axis on the same time and it is pressureintensitive for not only one axis but all the once at once. Very useful for every 3d-App, not useful for much else... I had the pleasure to use one of the more expensive once at a customers CAD-department... was very cool. And a good wacom is even more expensive than this one... it is as expensive as a better mouse...

didn't ask for a commercial. ' ' )
it's just a thing with three or four linear inputs.
if someone already has a wacom tablet, then finding a way to use pressure and tilt to provide additional input is halfway to this hockey puck.
with the right drivers, you could use the thing for volume, scroll, switching applications or desktops, or just about anything else.
it's just a meat-to-machine interface, albeit a cool one.

Yes you can use it for other things of course... I have already a Midi-Interface with motorfaders

so I dont need it for that. But there is no driver to use it very well with A:M, even with the MIDI-Plugin from Mister Gross...
And they have to write a driver for the other applications... dont know when they do that. I think it is just best used to navigate through 3d-space. For Audio-Software I will use my MIDI-Interface.
By the way... why did you buy a pen? You did already have a mouse and a keyboard... with the right drivers (which are available) you already could do everything you wanted...?

motorfaders? that would be a great haptic system, so you could feel resistance as you manipulated the view.. or maybe a thunk if the model hit the screen?
no, i'm interested in all manner of teledildonics, but if we used things for only what they were designe for, these pretty machines we're arguing though wouldn't even exist.
computers were invented to solve complex math problems.

They are very cool, but till my featurerequest to hash about permantent midi-support isnt fullfilled, they are more or less useless for A:M.
I always have to activate the plugin, set the corresponding bones, keys, etc. and it will only work for one model. It could be very cool if you could say: "Fader 1 - Rotate model on X" and so on and that would stay that way for everything you select. But it doesnt work this way till now.

I own both a space navigator and a wacom tablet and I think you would have a severe case of carpal tunnel syndrome if you tried to use a wacom like the space navigator. A wacom simply isn't designed with 3d navigation in mind.

I just ordered one. I couldn't resist

As soon as I'll have time I'll try to get it working with A:M. (won't be very soon though)
