Hi,

Only two weeks ago I started using AO and it's awesome! What a great feature! I'm using A:M v.14 and I found that I'm able to make certain groups of a model 100% transparent and when rendering with AO it seems to work fine, that group renders out transparent.

So I'm wondering about this new V15 Alpha rendering feature, Transparent AO (Slow!). I've read the bugs associated with it - is this just for when you have Hair over a transparent patch and render with AO? When and how should it be used?

Thanks for any help!

I haven't seen that yet. I haven't had much time to mess with v15. I'm still looking through v14 and I haven't even gotten to the new video editor.

Are you talking about making hair opaque in mirrors? That is a more or less new option...

Very true, I'm looking at the cutting edge just a few days after it comes out. wink.gif What caught my eye is all the mentions of AO in the change list, and the new AO Render option.

The new option is mentioned in a few different reports with steps like this one:

1. Make a patch.
2. Create a transparency map and apply it as a decal.
3. Render normally to confirm that the transparency is working.
4. Render with AO.
5. Observe that the patch is black where it should be transparent.

However, on a model in V14 I'm able to make a few patches transparent, put a light within the model, and render with AO with no problem I can see (see picture of large, boring green vase with transparent sections -- I guess this makes it a chimenea). Transparency decals work for me too. So it's just my curiousity that I wonder when and how this new option should be used.
